Tämä tutkimus tarkastelee rahapeliriippuvuudesta toipumista. Tarkastelussa on, mitä tarinoissa kerrotaan rahapeliriippuvuuden toipumisen käännekohdista ja keinoista. Lisäksi tarkastellaan, mitä annettavaa näillä edellä mainituilla on sosiaalityön käytäntöihin. Tutkimuksen aineisto koostuu kuudestatoista tarinasta, jotka kerättiin kirjoituspyynnön avulla. Teoreettisena viitekehyksenä on narratiivisuus. Lisäksi taustateoriaa on rahapeliriippuvuudesta. Can a cheat sheet in an EFL test engage and empower students?

Although occasionally used in language classrooms, cheat-sheet tests have not been explored in foreign or second language education research. This study experimented with cheat-sheet tests in the teaching of EFL in a Finnish upper secondary school. The participants, 101 students, could make a cheat sheet for the grammar part of their English test. A total of 92 students prepared the cheat sheet, nine did not. The power of assessment: What (dis)empowers students in their EFL assessment in a Finnish upper secondary school?

Assessment wields a great deal of power over students. Yet, there is little research on how students, either in general or as individuals, experience assessment. Therefore, this study aimed to explore what disempowers or empowers students in EFL assessment. A total of 146 students from one Finnish upper secondary school answered a questionnaire on assessment and feedback in their EFL studies. Tanssinharrastajien kokema voimaantuminen eri kulttuureista lähtöisin olevissa tanssimuodoissa

Tutkimuksen tarkoituksena oli selvittää kehofenomenologian näkökulmasta tanssinharrastajien kokemuksia eri kulttuureista lähtöisin olevista tanssimuodoista: länsiafrikkalaisista tansseista, itämaisesta tanssista ja flamencosta. Tutkimukseen osallistui 36 tanssinharrastajaa. He olivat iältään 11–70-vuotiaita ja olivat harrastaneet tanssimuotoaan 4–20 vuotta. Tanssinharrastajat kirjoittivat kokemuspäiväkirjaa tanssimisen kokemuksistaan kuudella tanssitunnilla kolmen kuukauden aikana. Striving for Inclusion through Participatory Practices in Social Enterprises

The aim of this research case is to shed some empirical light on the effects of participatory practices from the perspective of Sen’s capability approach in a Finnish social enterprise. Using a mixed method approach we explore how participatory practices build social inclusion by enabling both company’s employees and customers to engage in social agency. The case study findings articulate the importance of participatory practices to employees’ perceptions of meaningfulness of life and being able to meet customers (who are mentally disabled) needs on the one hand and customers’ experience of information sharing and feedback giving to the employees and helping other customers. peerReviewed

Experiences of left-behind family members of transnational migrant workers have been in the shadow of academic discourse on migration. To contribute to the slowly growing body of literature, this study explores the impact of male out-migration on left-behind wives. The study proposes and applies a novel framework to estimate Women Empowerment Index (WEI) for comparing the empowerment level across households with and without men in transnational labor.
