Storm sewer pressurization transient – an experimental investigation

Pipe pressurization is examined experimentally by 144 laboratory experiments in a circular tilting pipe between two tanks, in which the transient was triggered by sudden closing of the downstream tank outlet. The experiments cover ranges of values of slope, velocity and filling ratio of the open-channel flow not explored in previous studies. Situations involving considerable air quantity and consequent intense pressure oscillations were also reproduced. Two different pressurization patterns, defined as “smooth” and “abrupt”, were observed, but only the abrupt pattern produced intense pressure oscillations. PDMS membranes for feasible recovery of dissolved methane from AnMBR effluents

[EN] This study aimed to evaluate the feasibility of degassing membrane (DM) technology for recovering dissolved methane from AnMBR effluents. For that purpose, a PDMS membrane module was operated for treating the effluent from an AnMBR prototype-plant, which treated urban wastewater (UWW) at ambient temperature. Different transmembrane pressures and liquid flow rates were applied for evaluating methane recovery efficiency. Maximum methane recoveries were achieved when increasing the vacuum pressure and reducing the liquid flow rate, reaching a maximum methane recovery efficiency of around 80% at a transmembrane pressure (TMP) of 0.8 bars and a treatment flow rate (Q(L)) of 50 L h(-1). Abstract Different procedures for estimating steady flow rate during field application of the Guelph permeameter method were compared in terms of field-saturated hydraulic conductivity K fs and equilibration time t s estimates. A quantitative analysis of myocardial Ca-metabolism was carried out on isolated, isovolumetric (10 ml/min) perfused guinea pig hearts by combined determinations of the total Ca-content and kinetics of 45Ca-efflux (collecting period 60 min) (Fig. 1). Numerical modeling and design of a disk-type rotating permanent magnet induction pump

Abstract Electromagnetic induction pumps with rotating permanent magnets appear to be the most promising devices to transport liquid metals in high-temperature applications. Here we present a numerical methodology to simulate the operation of one particular modification of these types of pumps: a disk-type induction pump. The numerical model allows for the calculation and analysis of the flow parameters, including the pressure–flow rate characteristics of the pump. The simulations are based on an iterative fully coupled scheme for electromagnetic and hydrodynamic solvers. Dense jet modelling applied to the design of dense effluent diffusers

A model aimed at predicting the behavior of inclined dense jets in a stagnant environment was proposed. The model takes into account four jet parameters (flow rate, density, inclination and diameter) and results in a set of algebraic and ordinary differential equations, which are easily solved by simple (standard) numerical methods. Model results include information on the trajectory, spreading and dilution of the inclined dense jets. A laboratory experiment on inferring Poiseuille's law for undergraduate students

In this paper a laboratory experiment is proposed to infer Poiseuille's law. A simple set-up based on two flasks joined by a detachable tube allows one to measure using tubes of different radii and different lengths. One of the flasks is connected to a vacuum pump to control the pressure differential between the tube extremes. The influence on the flow of different radii, lengths, pressures and viscosities can be studied in a didactic way by measuring the flow rate for each of these variables. Experimental studies of a single flexibly-mounted rod in a triangular rod bundle in cross-flow

Experiments on flow-induced vibrations using a closely-packed triangular rod array with a pitch-todiameter ratio of 1.1 in water cross-flow was carried out at Paul Scherrer Institute. The bundle consists of 21 row of five rods in each one. Single flexibly-mounted test rod (TR) is in the fourth row in an otherwise fixed array. The test rod can freely move in the transverse and in-line direction. Two accelerometer sensors were attached at both ends of the TR to measure the rod response on the fluid flow.
