Acoustic Environmental Monitoring System for Acoustic Maps
2008
In this work, it is developed a data acquisition and analysis system for the monitoring of acoustic environmental noises and the elaboration of dynamic acoustic maps. This project is based on the obtaining of acoustic data in different measure points, and it is formed by a mesh of connections based on GPRS NODES and a Software Server for the administration and control of the data.
Evaluation of a Real, Low Cost, Urban WSN Deployment for Accurate Environmental Monitoring
2011
There are many areas where Wireless Sensor Networks (WSN) can offer innovative solutions for environmental monitoring applications and the meteorological community, but due to their complexity in terms of energy constraints and low performance devices, very few real deployments can be found. In this paper we will explain in detail the design, implementation and performance evaluation of a sparse WSN that has been working maintenance-free for over 12 months. The network has been designed for environmental monitoring purposes, and several motes, attached to lampposts, accurately measure the Temperature and Relative Humidity at various locations in a local street. Our contribution is an enhanc…
A SYNTHETIC MEASURE FOR THE ASSESSMENT OF THE PROJECT PERFORMANCE
2009
The present paper aims to offer a synthetic project performance indicator (PPI) that aggregates two input parameters obtained by the Earned Value Analysis. The PPI is calculated by using a Fuzzy Inference System (FIS) able to single out a measure based on the input parameters, instead of formulating a mathematical model that could be a troublesome task whenever complex relations among the input variables exist. The purpose is to communicate the project performance to the stakeholders in a clear and complete way, for example, describing the PPI by means of contour lines.
UML-Based Metamodeling for Information System Engineering and Evolution
2003
In modelers’ practice metamodels have become the core of UML-based metamodeling environments: metamodels form the basis of application domain descriptions, and they are instantiated into models. In the context of information system engineering and interoperability, we have developped two operations on metamodels: metamodel integration and measure of semantical distance between metamodels. In this paper, we explore application of these operations to information systems’ evolution.
Classifying efficient alternatives in SMAA using cross confidence factors
2006
Abstract Stochastic multicriteria acceptability analysis (SMAA) is a family of methods for aiding multicriteria group decision making. These methods are based on exploring the weight space in order to describe the preferences that make each alternative the most preferred one. The main results of the analysis are rank acceptability indices, central weight vectors and confidence factors for different alternatives. The rank acceptability indices describe the variety of different preferences resulting in a certain rank for an alternative; the central weight vectors represent the typical preferences favouring each alternative; and the confidence factors measure whether the criteria data are suff…
Stochastic Multicriteria Acceptability Analysis (SMAA)
2010
Stochastic multicriteria acceptability analysis (SMAA) is a family of methods for aiding multicriteria group decision making in problems with uncertain, imprecise or partially missing information. These methods are based on exploring the weight space in order to describe the preferences that make each alternative the most preferred one, or that would give a certain rank for a specific alternative. The main results of the analysis are rank acceptability indices, central weight vectors and confidence factors for different alternatives. The rank acceptability indices describe the variety of different preferences resulting in a certain rank for an alternative, the central weight vectors represe…
Introducing the Temporal Distortion Index to perform a bidimensional analysis of renewable energy forecast
2016
Abstract Wind has been the largest contributor to the growth of renewal energy during the early 21st century. However, the natural uncertainty that arises in assessing the wind resource implies the occurrence of wind power forecasting errors which perform a considerable role in the impacts and costs in the wind energy integration and its commercialization. The main goal of this paper is to provide a deeper insight in the analysis of timing errors which leads to the proposal of a new methodology for its control and measure. A new methodology, based on Dynamic Time Warping, is proposed to be considered in the estimation of accuracy as attribute of forecast quality. A new dissimilarity measure…
Field Measurements and Parameter Calibrations of Propagation Model for Digital Audio Broadcasting in Norway
2018
During 2017, digital audio broadcasting (DAB) replaces frequency modulation (FM) broadcasting and becomes the only technology for national terrestrial audio broadcasting services in Norway. As Norway is the first country that replaces FM completely with DAB, it is of great importance to measure the signal strength of such a technology in massive deployments and to tune a simulation model as a reference for future studies. Therefore, field measurements of received signal strength are carried out in a typical Norwegian area in this work. Based on the data obtained from the measurements, a simulator with a recent empirical propagation model, namely, ITU-R P.1546-5, has been calibrated. The fin…
How the Atmospheric Variables Affect to the WLAN Datalink Layer Parameters
2010
There are many issues that affect to WLAN connections (walls, vegetation, rain, objects in the Fresnel zone, etc.). Network designers and telecommunication practitioners must take them into account when they are planning wireless connections between devices. Some studies have demonstrated the implication of the atmospheric variables in the frequency attenuation and in the line of sight of the waves. But, to the extend of our knowledge, there is not any work published that relates the atmospheric variables with the datalink layer parameters of the WLANs. We must take into account that the datalink layer allows us to measure quite more parameters than the physical layer. After a review of the…
Water quality indicators: Comparison of a probabilistic index and a general quality index. The case of the Confederación Hidrográfica del Júcar (Spai…
2010
Abstract The main objective of this work is to measure water quality using a stochastic index built with tools of Probability Theory. Its great advantage is that it accounts for the underlying uncertainty in quality classification that results from variations in the data for individual physical and chemical characteristics, considering them as random variables. We compare the results obtained by measuring water quality with this index (the probabilistic index, PI ) and a classical deterministic index (the general quality index, GQI ). Also we do a comparison with other usual indices in order to validate the PI index. To demonstrate the application of PI and GQI indices, we used information …
