'Oxford Dictionaries' chose “post-truth” as the “Word of the Year 2016”, while the association of German linguists (Gesellschaft für deutsche Sprache) did the same for '“postfaktische Politik'”. “Alternative facts”, launched by Kellyanne Conway concerning the attendance at Donald Trump’s inaugural, was a third variant in this cluster. In this article, I shall discuss Max Weber’s parliamentary perspective on the critique of given facts and of the powers of science in relation to the debates around post-truth politics. A Note on the Nonlinear Landweber Iteration

We reconsider the Landweber iteration for nonlinear ill-posed problems. It is known that this method becomes a regularization method in the case when the iteration is terminated as soon as the residual drops below a certain multiple of the noise level in the data. So far, all known estimates of this factor are greater than two. Here we derive a smaller factor that may be arbitrarily close to one depending on the type of nonlinearity of the underlying operator equation.

A wind tunnel study of the effects of collision processes on the shape and oscillation for moderate-size raindrops

Abstract Drop–drop collision experiments were carried out at the Mainz vertical wind tunnel. Water drops of 2.5 mm diameter were freely floated at their terminal velocities in a vertical air stream and collided with 0.5 mm diameter droplets. The collisions were recorded with a high speed digital video camera at a frame rate of 1000 per second. Altogether 116 collision events were observed, 75 of which ended with coalescence, and the rest with filament type breakup. The coalescence efficiency and its dependence on the Weber number and on the eccentricity of the colliding drops showed good agreement with earlier numerical studies. Se presenta el caso de una mujer de 41 anos de edad con multiples malformaciones arteriovenosas pulmonares en el seno de la enfermedad de Rendu-Osler-Weber. Tenia antecedentes de telangiectasias cutaneas y mucosas, epistaxis frecuentes y un episodio de embolia de la arteria central de la retina del ojo derecho. A raiz de los estudios radiologicos y de resonancia magnetica practicados se detectaron malformaciones en los territorios vasculares de ambos pulmones (lobulo inferior derecho y Ungula). A primal-dual algorithm for the fermat-weber problem involving mixed gauges

We give a new algorithm for solving the Fermat-Weber location problem involving mixed gauges. This algorithm, which is derived from the partial inverse method developed by J.E. Spingarn, simultaneously generates two sequences globally converging to a primal and a dual solution respectively. In addition, the updating formulae are very simple; a stopping rule can be defined though the method is not dual feasible and the entire set of optimal locations can be obtained from the dual solution by making use of optimality conditions.
