Genome-Wide Association Study of Diabetic Kidney Disease Highlights Biology Involved in Glomerular Basement Membrane Collagen
2019
BACKGROUND: Although diabetic kidney disease demonstrates both familial clustering and single nucleotide polymorphism heritability, the specific genetic factors influencing risk remain largely unknown.METHODS: To identify genetic variants predisposing to diabetic kidney disease, we performed genome-wide association study (GWAS) analyses. Through collaboration with the Diabetes Nephropathy Collaborative Research Initiative, we assembled a large collection of type 1 diabetes cohorts with harmonized diabetic kidney disease phenotypes. We used a spectrum of ten diabetic kidney disease definitions based on albuminuria and renal function.RESULTS: Our GWAS meta-analysis included association result…
Life satisfaction and tax morale: The role of trust in government and cultural orientation
2022
Taxes are essential for a government to function correctly, because they fund public services and promote long-term growth in a country. Tax morale is a positive attitude toward taxation shaped by extrinsic and intrinsic motivations, including numerous psychological factors. However, these factors are far from completely clear and a better understanding of what drives tax morale can greatly help governments in the design of tax policies and their administration. In this paper we test the novel hypothesis that life satisfaction is one of the psychological aspects affecting tax morale. Using longitudinal data from the World Value Survey, we show that people more satisfied with their own life …
Ruddlesden-Popper Hybrid Lead Bromide Perovskite Nanosheets of Phase Pure n=2: Stabilized Colloids Stored in the Solid State.
2021
Ruddlesden-Popper lead halide perovskite (RP-LHP) nano-nanostructures can be regarded as self-assembled quantum wells or superlattices of 3D perovskites with an intrinsic quantum well thickness of a single or a few (n=2-4) lead halide layers; the quantum wells are separated by organic layers. They can be scaled down to a single quantum well dimension. Here, the preparation of highly (photo)chemical and colloidal stable hybrid LHP nanosheets (NSs) of ca. 7.4 μm lateral size and 2.5 nm quantum well height (thereby presenting a deep blue emission at ca. 440 nm), is reported for the first time. The NSs are close-lying and they even interconnect when deposited on a substrate. Their synthesis is …
Physical Activity Tracker Application in Promoting Physical Activity Behavior among Older Adults : A 24-month Follow-Up Study
2022
Objectives To investigate whether and how PA tracker application use supports PA behavior among older adults during the first 24 months of use. Methods: The changes in PA levels (i.e., time spent in different PA intensities) and between PA categories (i.e., low, moderate, or high based on total PA) were examined between three different time points: before taking the application into use (t0), after 12 months of use (t1), and after 24 months of use (t2). The data was collected by using the International Physical Activity Questionnaire modified for the elderly (IPAQ-E). Results: A statistically significant increase was observed in walking (χ2 (2) = 29.741, p < .001), moderate PA (χ2 (2) =…
Les systèmes éducatifs engendrent-ils des inégalités de bien-être ? : une recherche comparative internationale
2018
This study investigates the association between post-secondary education and well-being in international comparative perspective, conceptualizing well-being as a capability-informed measure of flourishing. Based on a combined human capital–capability approach, post-secondary education, operationalized as highest post-secondary educational credential, is hypothesized to relate positively with well-being net of individual-level and country-level controls at both the micro and macro levels of analysis. Prominent critiques of these approaches, suggesting indirect effects through occupational sorting at the individual level and economic factors at the country level, are also explored.Beyond thes…
Thermal solitons in nanotubes
2022
Starting from a recent proposal of a nonlinear Maxwell-Cattaneo equation for the heat transport with relaxational effects at nanoscale, in a special case of thermal-wave propagation we derive a nonlinear Schrodinger equation for the amplitudes of the heatflux perturbation. The complete integrability of the obtained equation is investigated in order to prove the existence of infinite conservation laws, as well as the existence of infinite exact solutions. In this regards, we have considered the simplest nontrivial solutions, namely, the bright and dark (thermal) solitons, which may be interesting for energy transport and for information transmission in phononic circuits. Stability and -gain controller design for positive switched systems with mixed time-varying delays
2013
This paper investigates the problems of stability and L"1-gain controller design for positive switched systems with mixed time-varying delays. The mixed time-varying delays are presented in the forms of discrete delay and distributed delay. The purpose of this paper is to design a class of switching signals and a state feedback controller for the considered system such that the resulting closed-loop system is exponentially stable with L"1-gain performance. By constructing an appropriate co-positive type Lyapunov-Krasovskii functional and using the average dwell time approach, we propose a sufficient condition to ensure the exponential stability with weighted L"1-gain performance for the sys…
The Role of Employees’ Work Patterns and Office Type Fit (and Misfit) in the Relationships Between Employee Well-Being and Performance
2018
Nearly half of workers agree that their workspace is unsuitable for their work tasks. Furthermore, it is assumed that happy workers often perform better than unhappy ones. Nevertheless, due to the effect of the emotional-cognitive processes, the misfit between employees’ office type and their work patterns (complexity and interactivity) may hamper this relationship between well-being and performance. This diary study on 83 office workers ( n = 603 time points) combines information about work patterns identified by using cluster analysis with Neufert’s office type classification. Results show that the work pattern–office type (mis)fit moderates the relationship between well-being and perfor…
Positive mood induction and well being
2009
The aim of this study is to test the role of consecutive positive mood induction virtual procedures on satisfaction of life of people with subclinical levels of sadness and/or anxiety. This is a work in progress and positive effects of mood induction on satisfaction and well being are expected.
