Kirjaimet ainoastaan kuvaavat kieltä. Äänteet ovat se, mitä todella kuulemme. Virheelliset ääntämistottumukset jättävät aivoihin harhaanjohtavia muistijälkiä ja edistävät näin väärinymmärrysten syntymistä. Tämä puolestaan voi johtaa siihen, että henkilö pidättäytyy puhumasta vierasta kieltä, minkä seurauksena on edistymisen hidastuminen. Oheisen tutkimuksen tarkoituksena on selvittää, voisiko foneettisen tarkekirjoituksen käytöllä opetusmenetelmänä olla myönteisiä vaikutuksia oppimistuloksiin. Prospektien houkuttelu asiakkaiksi ja uusien asiakkuuksien solmiminen on huomattavasti kalliimpaa yrityksen näkökulmasta kuin vanhojen asiakkaiden säilyttäminen. One of the problems related with the word order and word order typology is connected with derivation obtaining in the narrow syntax and the conditions responsible for the Full Interpretation requirement at LF as well as at PF. If it is assumed that linearization as defined in Kayne (1994) is the reflexion of the asymmetric character of syntax at PF, then it is worth analysing which properties of the syntactic derivation within the narrow syntax are reflected at PF and which configurations seen on the surface are the results of PF conditions. Epistolary Sketches: Landscapes in a Few Letters by Wordsworth, Shelley and Keats

This paper concentrates on the way in which a few Romantic poets tried to share their first impressions of landscape when addressing close friends or relatives in familiar letters. In these letters, we do not have the poetic re-creation of an artefact inspired by a landscape; because letters are supposed to be spontaneous, they reflect perceptions and emotions with less aesthetic distance than a poem. As such they are revealing, not only of each writer's concerns and reactions, but also of the way his perceptions have been shaped by education and former experiences.

Although increasing studies have confirmed the distinction between emotion-label words (words directly label emotional states) and emotion-laden words (words evoke emotions through connotations), the existing evidence is inconclusive, and their embodiment is unknown. In the current study, the emotional categorization task was adopted to investigate whether these two types of emotion words are embodied by directly comparing how they are processed in individuals’ native language (L1) and the second language (L2) among late Chinese-English bilinguals. The present dissertation focuses on the fluency of second and foreign language (L2). Second and foreign language use is often assessed by its fluency. However, the connections between language proficiency and fluency are far from clear. The fluency reasearch has tried to establish these connections, but results are varied. In the current thesis, this question is explored within the theoretical framework of Norman Segalowitz’s division of three types of fluency: cognitive, utterance, and perceived fluency. TallVocabL2Fi : A Tall Dataset of 15 Finnish L2 Learners’ Vocabulary

Previous work concerning measurement of second language learners has tended to focus on the knowledge of small numbers of words, often geared towards measuring vocabulary size. This paper presents a “tall” dataset containing information about a few learners’ knowledge of many words, suitable for evaluating Vocabulary Inventory Prediction (VIP) techniques, including those based on Computerised Adaptive Testing (CAT). In comparison to previous comparable datasets, the learners are from varied backgrounds, so as to reduce the risk of overfitting when used for machine learning based VIP.
