The excellent biocompatibility and negligible immune response of the titanium heterometallic MOF MUV-10

2021

The Ti-Ca heterometallic MOF MUV-10 exhibits good dispersibility in phosphate buffer and low phosphate-induced degradation in comparison to other MOF systems. It induces no cytotoxicity towards cells of the immune system and no inmune response, making it an attractive candidate for biomedical applications and demonstrating its safe use for other applications.

Development of Applications for Interactive and Reproducible Research: a Case Study

2016

For a proper understanding of the organization and regulation of gene expression, the computational analysis is an essential component of the scientific workflow, and this is particularly true in the fields of biostatistics and bioinformatics. Interactivity and reproducibility are two highly relevant features to consider when adopting or designing a tool, and often they can not be provided simultaneously. In this work, we address the issue of developing a framework that can provide interactive analysis, in order to allow experimentalists to fully exploit advanced software tools, as well as reproducibility as an internal validation of the analysis steps, by providing the underlying code and d…

Characterization and biodistribution of Au nanoparticles loaded in PLGA nanocarriers using an original encapsulation process

2021

Due to their imaging and radiosensitizing properties, ultrasmall gadolinium chelate-coated gold nanoparticles (AuNP) represent a promising approach in the diagnosis and the treatment of tumors. However, their poor pharmacokinetic profile, especially their rapid renal clearance prevents from an efficient exploitation of their potential for medical applications. The present study focuses on a strategy which resides in the encapsulation of AuNP in large polymeric NP to avoid the glomerular filtration and then to prolong the vascular residence time. An original encapsulation procedure using the polyethyleneimine (PEI) was set up to electrostatically entrap AuNP in biodegradable poly(lactic-co-g…

MicroRNA Interaction Networks

2021

Bertolazzi’s thesis focuses on developing and applying computational methods to predict microRNA binding sites located on messenger RNA molecules. MicroRNAs (miRNAs) regulate gene expression by binding target messenger RNA molecules (mRNAs). Therefo…

A technique to search functional similarities in PPI networks

2009

We describe a method to search for similarities across protein-protein interaction networks of different organisms. The technique core consists in computing a maximum weight matching of bipartite graphs resulting from comparing the neighbourhoods of proteins belonging to different networks. Both quantitative and reliability information are exploited. We tested the method on the networks of S. cerevisiae, D. melanogaster and C. elegans. The experiments showed that the technique is able to detect functional orthologs when the sole sequence similarity does not prove itself sufficient. They also demonstrated the capability of our approach in discovering common biological processes involving unc…
