Sofya Kovalevskaya (1850-1891) was an extraordinary gifted woman who stood out significantly from the nineteenth century Russian women. A Russian, of Polish-German descent, Kovalevskaya was an outstanding mathematician and a professor at Stockholm University. Besides her scientific activities, Kovalevskaya was also a writer and publicist. She is the author of a number of novels, a play (in collaboration with Anne-Charlotte Leffler-Edgren), and over a dozen of poems. Wszyscy z czasem powracamy pamięcią do czasów szkolnych, wspominając różnorakie sytuacje i wydarzenia, w których integralną częścią był nauczyciel. Zapisane w pamięci indywidualne wspomnienia, doświadczenia i refleksje, niejednokrotnie niosą ze sobą emocje - oddziałujące na nasze decyzje, postawy i zachowania - pomimo upływu lat. The present article focuses on Polish motifs in Sofya Kovalevskaya’s recollections. Kovalevskaya was a great 19th century Russian mathematician whose contributions were acknowledged throughout Europę during her lifetime. She was the first European woman to receive a doctorate in mathematics from the University of Gottingen, a professor at Stockholm University in Sweden, and the first female corresponding member of the Russian Academy of Sciences. Besides her scientific activities, Kovalevskaya was also a writer and publicist. She is the author of a number of novels, poems, a play and autobiographical Recollections of Childhood.
