A comprehensive study of structure and properties of nanocrystalline zinc peroxide
2022
Abstract Nanocrystalline zinc peroxide (nano-ZnO2) was synthesized through a hydrothermal process and comprehensively studied using several experimental techniques. Its crystal structure was characterized by X-ray diffraction, and the average crystallite size of 22 nm was estimated by Rietveld refinement. The temperature-dependent local environment around zinc atoms was reconstructed using reverse Monte Carlo (RMC) analysis from the Zn K-edge X-ray absorption spectra. The indirect band gap of about 4.6 eV was found using optical absorption spectroscopy. Lattice dynamics of nano-ZnO2 was studied by infrared and Raman spectroscopy. In situ Raman measurements indicate the stability of nano-ZnO…
Synthesis of [5]Rotaxanes Containing Bi- and Tridentate Coordination Sites in the Axis
2010
A new example of a linear [5]rotaxane has been synthesized by using the traditional "gathering-and-threading" approach but based on an unusual axle incorporating a symmetrical bis(bidentate) chelating fragment built on a 4,7-phenanthroline core. The stoppering reaction is particularly noteworthy since, instead of using a trivial bulky stopper as precursor to the blocking group, two semistoppered copper-complexed [2]pseudorotaxanes (namely [2]semirotaxanes) are used, which leads to the desired [5]rotaxane in good yield. The efficiency of the method relies on the use of "click" chemistry, with its very mild conditions, and on the protection by a transition-metal (copper(I)) of the various coo…
Front Cover: Facile Synthesis and Self‐Assembly of Zinc (2‐Diethoxyphosphorylethynyl)porphyrins (Eur. J. Inorg. Chem. 10/2019)

Electrochemical and spectroscopic studies of poly(diethoxyphosphoryl)porphyrins
2011
Abstract The synthesis and electrochemical characterization of two related series of porphyrins bearing diethoxyphosphoryl groups are reported. One group of compounds is represented as (T( p -R)PP)M where R = phos = P(O)(OEt) 2 and M = Zn(II) or H 2 while the other is represented as (di( p -R)Pdi(phos)P)M where R = P(O)(OEt) 2 , H or CH 3 and M = Zn(II) or H 2 . Each porphyrin was investigated by electrochemistry and thin-layer spectroelectrochemistry in CH 2 Cl 2 , CDCl 3 , CHCl 3 or PhCN containing tetra- n -butylammonium perchlorate (TBAP) as supporting electrolyte. The highly electron-withdrawing P(O)(OEt) 2 groups lead to easier reductions and harder oxidations than the two comparison …
Palladium-catalysed direct cross-coupling of secondary alkyllithium reagents
2014
Palladium-catalysed cross-coupling of secondary C(sp(3)) organometallic reagents has been a long-standing challenge in organic synthesis, due to the problems associated with undesired isomerisation or the formation of reduction products. Based on our recently developed catalytic C-C bond formation with organolithium reagents, herein we present a Pd-catalysed cross-coupling of secondary alkyllithium reagents with aryl and alkenyl bromides. The reaction proceeds at room temperature and on short timescales with high selectivity and yields. This methodology is also applicable to hindered aryl bromides, which are a major challenge in the field of metal catalysed cross-coupling reactions.
Drug release from calcium and zinc pectinate beads: Impact of dissolution medium composition
2011
The aim of this study was to investigate drug release from calcium and zinc pectinate beads and to understand the impact of medium electrolytes during drug transfer. A potential drug carrier for colonic drug delivery (rutin) was prepared with calcium and zinc pectinate beads and was tested in three different simulated intestinal fluids (pH 7.3) with phosphates (Sorensen’s and Mc Ilvaine’s buffers) and without phosphates (Tris-buffer). According to swelling studies and zinc ions release, it was showed that zinc ions keep adhering to the bead surface. Drug release and swelling behaviour from the two dosage forms depend not only on pH and ionic strength but also on the electrolytes there were …
Coordinating behaviour of a new pyridylhydrazone; tris-complexes of manganese(II), cobalt(II), nickel(II), copper(II) and zinc(II) with 2-pyridylcarb…
1991
The preparation and characterization oftris-complexes of MnII, CoII, NiII, CuII and ZnII with a new pyridylhydrazone, 2-pyridylcarbaldehyde-N,N-dimethylhydrazone (pch), are described. In all the complexes pch behaves as a bidentate ligand binding through the pyridine and azomethyne nitrogen atoms. The complexes appear to be monomeric, high spin six-coordinate, and a distorted octahedral stereochemistry around the metal is suggested. The e.p.r. results for both CuII compounds indicate a mainly dx2−y2 ground state with a static Jahn-Teller distortion, whilst for the MnII complex the e.p.r. data indicates a very low symmetry for the MnN6 polyhedron.
ZnO/ZnS heterostructures for hydrogen production by photoelectrochemical water splitting
2016
This work studies the photoelectrochemical behavior of novel ZnO/ZnS heterostructures obtained by means of anodization in water and glycerol/water/NH4F electrolytes with different Na2S additions under controlled hydrodynamic conditions. For this purpose different techniques such as Field Emission Scanning Electronic Microscopy (FE-SEM) with EDX, Raman spectroscopy and photoelectrochemical water splitting tests under standard AM 1.5 conditions have been carried out. The obtained results showed that the hydrodynamic conditions promoted an ordered nanotubular morphology which facilitates electron-hole separation and consequently, the photoelectrochemical activity for water splitting is enhance…
Hard X-Ray Response of Pixellated CdZnTe Detectors
2009
In recent years, the development of cadmium zinc telluride (CdZnTe) detectors for x-ray and gamma ray spectrometry has grown rapidly. The good room temperature performance and the high spatial resolution of pixellated CdZnTe detectors make them very attractive in space-borne x-ray astronomy, mainly as focal plane detectors for the new generation of hard x-ray focusing telescopes. In this work, we investigated on the spectroscopic performance of two pixellated CdZnTe detectors coupled with a custom low noise and low power readout application specific integrated circuit (ASIC). The detectors (10x10x1 and 10x10x2 mm3 single crystals) have an anode layout based on an array of 256 pixels with a …
Tristetraprolin Regulates the Expression of the Human Inducible Nitric-Oxide Synthase Gene
2005
The expression of human inducible NO synthase (iNOS) is regulated both by transcriptional and post-transcriptional mechanisms. Stabilization of mRNAs often depends on activation of p38 mitogen-activated protein kinase (p38 MAPK). In human DLD-1 cells, inhibition of p38 MAPK by the compound 4-(4-fluorophenyl)-2-(4-methylsulfinylphenyl)-5-(4-pyridyl)1H-imidazole (SB203580) or by overexpression of a dominant-negative p38 MAPKalpha protein resulted in a reduction of human iNOS mRNA and protein expression, whereas human iNOS promoter activity was not affected. An important RNA binding protein regulated by the p38 MAPK pathway and involved in the regulation of the stability of several mRNAs is tr…
