BaBar Results on Hadronic Cross Sections with Initial State Radiation

In this paper we present recent results of the BaBar experiment at the B-factory PEP-II in the field of hadronic cross section measurements. At PEP-II, which is designed for a fixed center-of-mass energy around the ϒ(4S) resonance, the hadronic cross section is measured using events with Initial State Radiation (ISR), which allows the cover the entire energy range below 4 GeV in one single experiments. Results for exclusive finals states with 3, 4 and 5 hadrons, as well as measurements of hyperon form factors are shown.

Measurement of the branching ratio and search for a CP violating asymmetry in the η→π+π−e+e−(γ) decay at KLOE

Abstract We have studied the η → π + π − e + e − ( γ ) decay using about 1.7 fb − 1 collected by the KLOE experiment at the DAΦNE ϕ -factory. This corresponds to about 72 millions η mesons produced in ϕ radiative decays. We have measured the branching ratio, inclusive of radiative effects, with 4% accuracy: BR ( η → π + π − e + e − ( γ ) ) = ( 26.8 ± 0.9 Stat . ± 0.7 Syst . ) × 10 − 5 . We have obtained the first measurement of the CP-odd ππ – ee decay planes angular asymmetry, A ϕ = ( − 0.6 ± 2.5 Stat . ± 1.8 Syst . ) × 10 − 2 .

Impact of prompt gamma emission of 44Sc on quantification in preclinical and clinical PET systems

Abstract 44Sc is an increasingly investigated positron emitter for use in positron emission tomography (PET) imaging. However, 44Sc is a non-pure positron emitter, since prompt photons are co-emitted during the decay process. This study investigates coincidence energy spectra of 44Sc and its impact on PET quantification on a preclinical and clinical PET system in comparison with 18F. The raw data of the coincidence events revealed characteristic differences comparing the photon energy distribution of 44Sc and 18F. Due to prompt gamma emission of 44Sc, activity recovery is underestimated on PET systems. However, clinical PET imaging of 44Sc with acceptable quantitative accuracy appears feasi…

REVIEW OF R MEASUREMENTS

We review the status of R measurements in the energy range below 12 GeV, where recently a major progress has been achieved recently. These measurements are phenomenologically motivated by their impact on precision QCD and on electroweak parameters. We also report on improved results which can be expected in near future from presently running or upcoming facilities.

Observation of the doubly radiative decay η′→γγπ0

Based on a sample of 1.31 billion J/psi events collected with the BESIII detector, we report the study of the doubly radiative decay eta' -> gamma gamma pi(0) for the first time, where the eta' meson is produced via the J/psi -> gamma eta' decay. The branching fraction of eta' -> gamma gamma pi(0) inclusive decay is measured to be B(eta' -> gamma gamma pi(0))(Incl) = (3.20 +/- 0.07(stat) +/- 0.23(sys)) x 10(-3), while the branching fractions of the dominant process eta' -> gamma omega and the non-resonant component are determined to be B(eta' -> gamma omega) x B(omega -> gamma pi(0)) = (23.7 +/- 1.4(stat) +/- 1.8(sys)) x 10(-4) and B(eta' -> gamma gamma pi(0))(NR) = (6.16 +/- 0.64(stat) +/-…

Review of dark photon searches

Dark Photons are hypothetical extra-U(1) gauge bosons, which are motivated by a number of astrophysical anomalies as well as the presently seen deviation between the Standard Model prediction and the direct measurement of the anomalous magnetic moment of the muon, (g − 2)μ . The Dark Photon does not serve as the Dark Matter particle itself, but acts as a messenger particle of a hypothetical Dark Sector with residual interaction to the Standard Model. We review recent Dark Photon searches, which were carried out in a global effort at various hadron and particle physics facilities. We also comment on the perspectives for future invisble searches, which directly probe the existence of Light Da…

Search for the decay ϕ→K0K¯0γ with the KLOE experiment

Abstract We have searched for the decay ϕ → K 0 K ¯ 0 γ , by detecting K S pairs plus a photon and with the K S -mesons decaying to π + π − , in a sample of about 1.5 × 10 9 ϕ-decays collected by the KLOE experiment at DAΦNE. The reaction proceeds through the intermediate states f 0 ( 980 ) γ , a 0 ( 980 ) γ . We find five events with 3.2 events expected from background processes. We obtain the upper limit: BR ( ϕ → K 0 K ¯ 0 γ ) 1.9 × 10 − 8 at 90% CL.

Measurement of the Time-like Pion Transition Form Factor at BESIII

The pion transition form factor is an important input to the dispersive approaches of the Standard Model calculations for the anomalous magnetic moment of the muon. We report the prospects of a first measurement at high momentum transfer in the time-like region performed at BESIII. The aim is to improve the uncertainty of the hadronic light-by-light calculations and to shed light on the BaBar-Belle puzzle in the space-like region.

Amplitude analysis and branching fraction measurement of Ds+→K−K+π+π0

We report an amplitude analysis and branching fraction measurement of Ds+→K+K−π+ decay using a data sample of 3.19 fb−1 recorded with BESIII detector at a center-of-mass energy of 4.178 GeV. We perform a model-independent partial wave analysis in the low K+K− mass region to determine the K+K− S-wave line shape, followed by an amplitude analysis of our very pure high-statistics sample. With the detection efficiency based on the amplitude analysis results, the absolute branching fraction is measured to be B(Ds+→K+K−π+)=(5.47±0.08stat±0.13sys)%.

Direct X(3872) production in e+e- collisions

Direct production of the charmonium-like state $X(3872)$ in $e^+e^-$ collisions is considered in the framework of the vector meson dominance model. An order-of-magnitude estimate for the width $\Gamma(X\to e^+e^-)$ is found to be $\gtrsim$0.03 eV. The same approach applied to the $\chi_{c1}$ charmonium decay predicts the corresponding width of the order 0.1 eV in agreement with earlier estimates. Experimental perspectives for the direct production of the $1^{++}$ charmonia in $e^+e^-$ collisions are briefly discussed.

Instrumentation and optimization studies for a beam dump experiment (BDX) at MESA — DarkMESA

Abstract At the Institute for Nuclear Physics in Mainz the new electron accelerator MESA will go into operation within the next years. The high-power beam dump of the P2 experiment is ideally suited for a parasitic dark sector experiment — DarkMESA. In the first stage 1,000 high density Cherenkov radiators from a previous experiment will be used. The experiment is studied with a simulation based on MadGraph and Geant4 . The simulation includes an optical photon study, where the response of possible calorimeter materials – PbF 2, BGO, the Pb glasses SF5, SF6 and SF57HTultra from Schott – was investigated. The simulation outcomes are compared with the results of prototypes tested at the Mainz…

Measurement of the π0, η, η′ Transition Form Factors at BABAR

Abstract Measurements of the transition form factors of the pseudoscalar mesons π 0 , η, η ′ have been carried out by the BABAR collaboration at the SLAC B-factory PEP-II. The form factors F ( Q 2 ) were measured in two-photon processes covering the kinematic range 4 GeV 2 Q 2 40 GeV 2 . For the π 0 form factor, results are significantly higher than predicted by Brodsky and Lepage assuming an asymptotic distribution amplitude. Data also suggest that the asymptotic regime of QCD is reached only at relatively high Q 2 . We also report on measurements of the η and η ′ transition form factors, which happen to feature a significantly different Q 2 behaviour than the one of the neutral pion.

First measurements of Λ and hyperons in elementary electroproduction at MAMI

Abstract Since 2008 the magnetic spectrometer Kaos , dedicated to the detection of charged kaons, is operating at the 1.5 GeV electron beam of MAMI at the Institut fur Kernphysik in Mainz, Germany. The strangeness programme performed in 2008–9 is addressing some important issues in the field of elementary kaon photoelectro-production reactions. The identification of Λ and Σ 0 hyperons in the missing mass spectra from kaon production off a liquid hydrogen target demonstrates the capability of the extended facility to perform strangeness electro-production spectroscopy at low momentum transfers Q 2 0.5 ( GeV / c ) 2 . Systematic uncertainties in the cross-section extraction from the data are …
