Precision thrust cumulant moments atN3LL

2012

We consider cumulant moments (cumulants) of the thrust distribution using predictions of the full spectrum for thrust including O(alpha_s^3) fixed order results, resummation of singular N^3LL logarithmic contributions, and a class of leading power corrections in a renormalon-free scheme. From a global fit to the first thrust moment we extract the strong coupling and the leading power correction matrix element Omega_1. We obtain alpha_s(m_Z) = 0.1141 \pm (0.0004)_exp \pm (0.0014)_hadr \pm (0.0007)_pert, where the 1-sigma uncertainties are experimental, from hadronization (related to Omega_1) and perturbative, respectively, and Omega_1 = 0.372 \pm (0.044)_exp \pm (0.039)_pert GeV. The n-th th…

Novel patterns for vector mesons from the large-Nc limit

2008

We report on a relation between the decay constants of \rho-like J^{PC}=1^{--} vector mesons, which arises solely from the perturbative analysis of the VV, TT and VT correlators at order \alpha_s^0 in the large-N_c limit. We find f_{V}^T/f_{V}=1/\sqrt{2} for highly excited states together with a pattern of alternation in sign. Quite remarkably, recent lattice determinations reported f_{\rho}^T/f_{\rho}=0.72(2), in excellent agreement with our large-N_c result. This seems to suggest a pattern like f_{Vn}^T/f_{Vn}=(-1)^n/\sqrt{2} for the whole (1^{--}) states. In order to test this conjecture in real QCD we construct a set of spectral sum rules, which turn out to comply nicely with this scena…

Dispersion relation bounds forππscattering

2008

Axiomatic principles such as analyticity, unitarity, and crossing symmetry constrain the second derivative of the $\ensuremath{\pi}\ensuremath{\pi}$ scattering amplitudes in some channels to be positive in a region of the Mandelstam plane. Since this region lies in the domain of validity of chiral perturbation theory, we can use these positivity conditions to bound linear combinations of ${\overline{l}}_{1}$ and ${\overline{l}}_{2}$. We compare our predictions with those derived previously in the literature using similar methods. We compute the one-loop $\ensuremath{\pi}\ensuremath{\pi}$ scattering amplitude in the linear sigma model (LSM) using the $\overline{\mathrm{MS}}$ scheme, a result…

Power Corrections to Event Shapes with Mass-Dependent Operators

2013

We introduce an operator depending on the "transverse velocity'' r that describes the effect of hadron masses on the leading 1/Q power correction to event-shape observables. Here, Q is the scale of the hard collision. This work builds on earlier studies of mass effects by Salam and Wicke [J. High Energy Phys. 05 (2001) 061] and of operators by Lee and Sterman [Phys. Rev. D 75, 014022 (2007)]. Despite the fact that different event shapes have different hadron mass dependence, we provide a simple method to identify universality classes of event shapes whose power corrections depend on a common nonperturbative parameter. We also develop an operator basis to show that at a fixed value of Q, the…

Top quark mass measurement in radiative events at electron-positron colliders

2020

In this letter, we evaluate potential of linear $e^+e^-$ colliders to measure the top quark mass in radiative events and in a suitable short-distance scheme. We present a calculation of the differential cross section for production of a top quark pair in association with an energetic photon from initial state radiation, as a function of the invariant mass of the $t\bar{t}$ system. This {\it matched} calculation includes the QCD enhancement of the cross section around the $t\bar{t}$ production threshold and remains valid in the continuum well above the threshold. The uncertainty in the top mass determination is evaluated in realistic operating scenarios for the Compact Linear Collider (CLIC)…

Universal Bounds for SU(3) Low Energy Constants

2008

In this paper bounds for L_1, L_2 and L_3 are obtained in Chiral Perturbation Theory with three flavours. At the same time we test the compatibility of this theory with axiomatic principles. Following a recent paper we use dispersion relations to write positivity conditions that translate into bounds for the chiral low energy constants. As a first approach we consider the exact SU(3)_V limit and notice that if a common mass of the order of that of the kaon is adopted for the octet of pseudo-Goldstone bosons the bounds have very large O(p^6) corrections. Once the positivity conditions are adapted to account for different masses, we correct the previous bounds for a physical kaon mass and fin…
