Investigation of mechanical and electrical properties of Li doped sodium niobate ceramic system
ABSTRACTThe Na0.96Li0.04NbO3 ceramic solid solution was prepared by means of a two-stage hot-pressing technology. The X-ray diffraction analysis showed the formation of a single perovskite phase with an orthorhombic symmetry in the investigated composition. The microstructure and EDS measurements were performed. They confirmed the high purity and the expected qualitative composition. A good homogeneity of the microstructures and a small degree of porosity were observed. The elastic modulus (the Young's modulus E, shear modulus G, and Poisson's ratio ν) of Na0.96Li0.04NbO3 were determined with the use of an ultrasonic method. The electrical properties of Na0.96Li0.04NbO3 ceramics were invest…
Structural and Dielectric Properties of Na0.99Li0.01NbO3Ceramics
Na0.99Li 0,01 NbO3 ceramics were prepared by solid-state reaction method. The samples were characterized by X-ray diffraction, microstructure and dielectric permittivity measurements. The X-ray diffraction analysis showed that samples have a single phase of perovskite structure with orthorhombic symmetry. Microstructure investigations revealed crystalline structures in grains. It was found that dielectric properties of Na99Li0.01NbO3 ceramic are sensitive to the applied axial pressure. This includes the shift of phase transformation, diffuseness of the ϵ (T) profile and reduction of the thermal hysteresis. These effects can be caused by change in domain structure and anisotropy of crystalli…

The effect of Hf content on a microstructure and mechanical properties of the BaTiO3-BaHfO3 solid solution was investigated at room temperature. To determine the elastic constants (the Young′s modulus E, the shear modulus G, bulk modulus K and the Poisson′s ratio v) of BaHfxTi1-xO3 a method of measurement of the longitudinal (VL ) and transverse (VT ) ultrasonic wave velocities for this type of material was developed.
Preparation and dielectric properties of (Na 0.5 K 0.5 )NbO 3 ceramics with ZnO and CdO addition
The sintering conditions, phase structure, and electrical properties of the ZnO and CdO doped (Na0.5K0.5)NbO3 (NKN) ceramics were investigated and discussed. All the samples were prepared by a solid state reaction method. The addition of 1 wt% CdO and ZnO as a sintering aid increases the density and lowering the sintering temperature. XRD analysis indicated perovskite structure with monoclinic symmetry. The investigated samples are good quality, the grains are well shaped without a glassy phase. The results of dielectric measurements revealed, that the dielectric properties of NKN based ceramics are stable in the wide temperature range.
STRONTIUM CONCENTRATION DEPENDENCE OF SELECTED STRUCTURAL AND MECHANICAL PROPERTIES OF POLYCRYSTALLINE Ba1−XSrXTiO3
ABSTRACT Microstructure and material constants such as Young modulus E, shear modulus G, Poisson ratioν of polycrystalline ferroelectric materials Ba1-xSrxTiO3 for 0≤x≤0.4 were investigated to determine their dependence on strontium concentration. The performed investigations showed that the material is chemically homogeneous. It was found that the strontium concentration had no significant influence on the grain size. The highest value of Young's modulus is observed for Ba0.6Sr0.4TiO3 sample. The performed investigations of mechanical properties made it possible to evaluate the usability of this material for manufacturing transducers and sensors which could work under load.
Influence of Axial Pressure on the Electrical Properties of Li0.06Na0.94NbO3 Ceramic
Lead-free ceramic Li0.06Na0.94NbO3 was synthesized using a conventional solid-state processing. The single-phase perovskite structure was identified by X-ray powder diffraction technique. The values of lattice parameters of Li0.06Na0.94NbO3 are lower than those for pure NaNbO3. The EDS analysis shows the fairly homogeneous distribution of all elements throughout the grains. An axial pressure significantly influences electric properties. With increasing pressure the peak intensity in the ϵ(T) curve decreases, the peak becomes diffused and shifts to a lower temperature. The value of tanδ increases with increasing axial pressure and its local maximum shifts towards lower temperatures.

The SEM and EDS studies revealed that the Li0.02Na0.98NbO3 samples were perfectly sintered and chemically homogeneous. Electric measurements showed that Li0.02Na0.98NbO3 was sensitive to the frequency of the applied electric field and revealed that the ac conductivity changed with frequency according to the formula: σ(ω) = σdc +Aωn where n < 1. These results were discussed with a reference to the conduction mechanism as a type of polaron hopping.
Composition-related structural, thermal and mechanical properties of Ba1−xSrxTiO3ceramics (0 ≤x≤ 0.4)
The Ba1−xSrxTiO3 (BST) ceramics were prepared by conventional ceramic method. The crystalline structure and morphology were studied by X-ray diffraction and scanning electron microscopy, respectively. Experimental results show that increase of sintering temperature leads to an uncontrolled precipitating of the phase with a lower content of Ti. The dielectric constant and specific heat as a function of composition and temperature were investigated. The increasing concentration of Sr ions leads to a shift of the Curie point below room temperature. To determine the elastic constants (the Young's modulus E, the shear modulus G and the Poisson's ratio v) of BST, a method of measurement of the lo…

The effects of the additive of Eu ions on elastic and electric properties of BaTiO3ceramics
ABSTRACTThe BaTiO3 and BaTiO3+X%wt.Eu2O3 (X = 1, 2, 3) ceramics were prepared by a solid phase reaction. The structural and morphology studies were carried out by means of an X-ray diffraction technique and scanning electron microscopy, respectively. Elastic moduli were determined with the use of an ultrasonic method. The dielectric permittivity (ϵ′) and tanδ as a function of composition and temperature were investigated. The increasing concentration of Eu ions leads to a slight shift of the Curie temperature and changes the characteristics of ϵ′ and tanδ. The structural, mechanical and dielectric properties of the BTEX ceramics were discussed in terms of microstructure and dopants contents.
Synthesis, microstructure and dielectric properties of (1−x)PSN−xPLuN
Ceramic lead niobates and their solid solutions PSN–PLuN (pure lutecium niobate) were synthesized by solid state reactions. The sequence of phases formed at PSN–PLuN synthesis has been studied by X-ray analysis. Their symmetry changed from rhombohedral for PSN to pseudo-monoclinic for the 0.75PSN–0.25PLuN compositions. The performed EDS investigations revealed that the samples PSN–PLuN are perfectly sintered. They contain a little glassy phase and their grains are well shaped. The increase of lutecium content in the examined solid solution caused downward shift of the temperature of the phase transition. The decrease of the achieved permittivity values ϵ was observed as well.
Study of the Dielectric Properties of Europium Doped Barium Titanate Ceramics by an Impedance Spectroscopy
The barium titanate (BaTiO3) and the BaTiO3 + 0.1wt.% Eu2O3 ceramics were prepared by a conventional ceramic method. The structural studies were carried out by means of an X-ray diffraction technique. The influence of the grains and the grain boundaries on the electrical properties was investigated using a impedance spectroscopy. This technique enables us to determine the values of grain and grain boundary resistance. The results show that the Eu doping leads to a significant reduction in the resistance value of the grains (˜105Ω) with respect to the pure BT ceramics (˜107Ω). The conductivity processes were determined from the Arrhenius behaviour of grain and grain boundary resistances.
