Lowermost Jurassic dinosaur ecosystem from the Bleymard Strait (southern France): sedimentology, mineralogy, palaeobotany and palaeoichnology of the Dolomitic Formation.

AbstractWe report the first Hettangian theropod tracksite (~200 Ma) yielding a rich accumulation of plant remains from the Bleymard Strait (southern France). It constitutes an excellent opportunity to reconstruct lowermost Jurassic ecosystems hosting dinosaurs and which are still poorly documented in this area. Two morphotypes of tridactyl tracks are distinguished. They share similarities with Grallator and Kayentapus. Plant-bearing beds yield abundant leafy axes (Pagiophyllum peregrinum), male cones (Classostrobus sp.), wood (Brachyoxylon sp.) and pollen of conifers (Classopollis classoides). Dinosaur bonebed amber from an original swamp forest soil

AbstractDinosaur bonebeds with amber content, yet scarce, offer a superior wealth and quality of data on ancient terrestrial ecosystems. However, the preserved palaeodiversity and/or taphonomic characteristics of these exceptional localities had hitherto limited their palaeobiological potential. Here we describe the amber from the Lower Cretaceous dinosaur bonebed of Ariño (Teruel, Spain) using a multidisciplinary approach. International audience; Over recent decades, diverse structures ascribed to angiosperms, bennettitaleans, conifers, cycads, ginkgophytes and pteridosperms have been reported from the Cretaceous deposits of the Aquitaine Basin (southwestern France). However, Albian macrofloras remain uncommon in Aquitania as well as in France. The clay from the Archingeay-Les Nouillers quarries is one of the rare deposits of the Aquitaine Basin to yield Albian plant meso- and macro-remains. International audience; A new Cenomanian amber- and plant-bearing deposit has been discovered at Neau, in the Mayenne department (France). The Cenomanian fossiliferous lignites are located in karst filling in a substratum of Cambrian limestones. The amber corresponds mainly to tiny millimetric grains, devoid of arthropod inclusions, but rich in microorganisms, especially the sheated bacteria Leptotrichites resinatus , and containing pollen grains ( Classopollis ) and wood fibers (Araucariacae or Cheirolepidiaceae). Resume Au cours du XXe siecle, la majorite des sites a plantes fossiles (Hettangien–Sinemurien) de la ville de Mende ont disparu a cause d’une importante urbanisation ou bien sont tombes dans l’oubli. Cet article presente une synthese des gisements a vegetaux fossiles, depuis leur decouverte au XIXe siecle jusqu’aux campagnes de prospection recentes. However, the histology of G. reichenbachii leafy axes was never described in detail, and our knowledge of its paleoecology remains very limited. Fossil wood in Middle–Upper Jurassic marine sedimentary cycles of France: relations with climate, sea-level dynamics, and carbonate-platform environments

Abstract Vegetation, climate, and sea-level oscillations interact in complex ways. Intuition suggests that climatic variations are recorded in geological deposits by both fossil phytoclasts and sediments. Therefore investigation of palaeobotanical remains within a precise sedimentological framework may help to decipher this much-debated interaction. A database of 129 Jurassic (Bathonian–Oxfordian) fossil wood samples from France is used here as a case study.
