Els auxiliars dels temps compostos en català medieval

The study of auxiliary verbs in compound tenses («haver» vs. «Ésser») in Old Catalan is a topic discussed in many works. But no research deeply analysing literary works of the time and using an accurate methodology is available. Our purpose is to show that so significant medieval literary works such as «Llibre de Meravelles» by Ramon Llull, «Llibre dels Fets» by King James I & «Tirant lo Blanch», can also provide very valuable information to understand the phenomenon of change of auxiliary. Referring to usage frequencies, we show that chronology plays a great role in these alternations and outline a whole series of factors that explain the observed evolutive tendencies.

The Polysemy of the verbs «pegar», «apegar» and «empegar» in Catalan : a synchronic manifestation of semantic change

In this paper we study the polysemy that the verbs pegar ('hit/stick'), apegar ('stick') and empegar ('stick') possess today in the Catalan language. First of all, we perform a thorough description of the meanings that each of these verbs have acquired not only in the standard but also in the colloquial language. Each of the meanings has been differentiated from the others by analysing the most prominent dictionaries currently available and a corpus of written texts. Els derivats d'Esse i Stare en les llengües romàniques

This paper presenta a contrastive analysis of the Romance verbs derived from ESSE and STARE. The lexical and syntactic characteristics of these verbs in Latin and their locative and atributive uses clearly contrast with actual Romance uses. This contrast highlights the variable extension of the verbs derived from STARE assuming the space of those derived from ESSE.One extreme of the clyne is represented by the Hispanic languages (i.e., Spanish, Portuguese and Catalan), which have developed more uses and thus extended further the STARE forms. On the opposite extreme, there is French, which has no STARE uses. In between, there are Occitan, Sardinian, Italian and Romanian, which include some f…
