On the internal multivariate quality control of analytical laboratories. A case study: the quality of drinking water

Abstract Multivariate statistical process control (MSPC) tools, based on principal component analysis (PCA), partial least squares (PLS) regression and other regression models, are used in the present study for automatic detection of possible errors in the methods used for routine multiparametric analysis in order to design an internal Multivariate Analytical Quality Control (iMAQC) program. Such tools could notice possible failures in the analytical methods without resorting to any external reference since they use their own analytical results as a source for the diagnosis of the method's quality. Chromatographic monitoring of diuretics in urine samples using a sodium dodecyl sulphate—propanol micellar eluent

Abstract The effect of a varying pH, in the range 3−7, on the retention of several diuretics eluted with a sodium dodecyl sulphate (SDS) micellar mobile phase and with UV detection was studied. Significant changes in the capacity factors ( K′ of the diuretics bumetanide, ethacrynic acid, furosemide, probenecid and xipamide were observed. The protonation constants of these compounds were calculated from the k′ data. The quality of water destined for human consumption has been treated as a multivariate property. Uncertainty-Based Internal Quality Control. Harmonization Considerations

Three main quality aspects for analytical laboratories are internal method validation, internal quality control (IQC), and sample result uncertainty. Unfortunately, in the past they have been used in a nonharmonized way. The most universal IQC tool is the mean chart, but some criteria used to fix their control limits do not fit the real nature of analytical results. A new approach for fixing these limits is proposed (the u-approach). Abstract The therapeutical action of diuretics has been attributed to their hydrophobic character, among other properties. Therapeutical and physiological classifications of diuretics are correlated. The site of action of high efficacay diuretics is the loop of Henle, that of intermediate efficacy diuretics is the distal tubule and that of low efficacy diuretics is the proximal and distal tubules, and the collecting duct. Determination of phenoxy acid herbicides in drinking waters by HPLC and solid phase extraction

Abstract An HPLC procedure for determining phenoxy acid herbicides in waters is described. A LichroSpher RP select B octadecyl-silane analytical column and spectrophotometric detection at 230 nm were used. Adequate retention was achieved with a mobile phase containing MeOH/phosphate buffer 10−2 M pH 2.5/PnOH (50/42/8, v/v). The herbicides were isolated from water samples by using a single solid phase extraction procedure with C18 solid-phase columns. An enrichment factor of 500 is achieved. The coefficients of variation of the method were generally lower than 2.7% at 0.4 μg L−1 herbicide concentration levels. Recoveries ranged between 93 and 118%.
