Nanoemulsions for synthesis of biomedical nanocarriers
Nanoemulsions are kinetically stabilized emulsions with droplet sizes in the nanometer scale. These nanodroplets are able to confine spaces in which reactions of polymerization or precipitation can take place, leading to the formation of particles and capsules that can act as nanocarriers for biomedical applications. This review discusses the different possibilities of using nanoemulsions for preparing biomedical nanocarriers. According to the chemical nature, nanocarriers prepared in nanoemulsions are classified in polymeric, inorganic, or hybrid. The main synthetic strategies for each type are revised, including miniemulsion polymerization, nanoemulsion-solvent evaporation, spontaneous em…
Biomonitoring of non-persistent pesticides in urine from lactating mothers: Exposure and risk assessment
Abstract The aim of the present study was to assess the exposure to pesticides in urine from Spanish lactating mothers (n = 116). Six nonspecific (dialkyl phosphates) and 20 specific metabolites of organophosphate pesticides (OPs), herbicides and pyrethroids were analyzed. The most frequently detected biomarkers were diethyl phosphate, p-nitrophenol, 3,5,6-trichloro-2-pyridinol and 3-phenoxybenzoic acid, whose geometric means were 1.9 ng·mL−1, 0.8 ng·mL−1, 1.5 ng·mL−1 and 1.4 ng·mL−1, respectively. Herbicide metabolites were the least frequently detected biomarkers with detection frequencies between 0% (2,4,5-Trichlorophenoxyacetic acid) and 22% (2,4-Dichlorophenoxyacetic acid). Multiple re…
LaboratorioRPGDocente: Un game-based learning para combatir la situación causada por la COVID-19 en instituciones educativas.
[EN] Due to the pandemic caused by COVID-19, several educational institutions have been forced to close their facilities, and practical courses -such as laboratory practices- were impossible to carry out. Game-based learning can be found among many different digital learning techniques, and it consists in teaching the contents as a transversal inmersive element. This work will be focused on a simulation videogame, which allows the students to understand the simulated environment and to develop certain skills based on their interaction with the game interface. One of the main characteristics of these kind of video games is their high degree of realism. More specifically, in this project, stu…
Magnetic Polyurethane Microcarriers from Nanoparticle-Stabilized Emulsions for Thermal Energy Storage
Hydrated inorganic salts are phase change materials (PCMs) with promising thermal energy storage capacity. However, their application is commonly restricted because of problems of phase segregation...
