Preheated restorative composite resin for luting ceramic laminate veneers : an optimized technique report

Resin cements are traditionally used to lute ceramic laminate veneers due to their lower viscosity, which facilitates a fast restoration seating. However, resin cements have lower mechanical properties compared to restorative composite resins. Thus, resto

Does hybridized dentin affect bond strength of self-adhesive resin cement?

Background: Evaluate the influence of different hybridization bonding techniques of a self-adhesive resin cement. Material and Methods: 30 human health molars were divided into six groups (n=10). The specimens received three longitudinal sections, allowing insertion of central cuts in PVC matrices. Each group received a different dentin pretreatment according to the manufacturerâ s recommendations, except the control group (G1), as follows. G2 - a 3-step total-etch adhesive system (Optibondâ ¢ FL, Kerr); G3 - a 3-step total-etch adhesive system (Adperâ ¢ Scotchbondâ ¢ Multi-Purpose, 3M ESPE); G4 - a 2-step total-etch adhesive system (Adperâ ¢ Single Bond 2, 3M ESPE); G5 - a single-step self…

Effect of saliva contamination on cementation of orthodontic brackets using different adhesive systems

Background The enamel condition and the quality of surface are points that need to be considered for achieving optimal efficiency in the treatment with orthodontic brackets. The aim of this study was to assess the immediate bond strength of metallic brackets cemented to dental. Material and Methods Forty human premolars were double-sectioned, placed in PVC matrices and randomly divided into 10 groups (n=8). They received artificial saliva contamination before or after the application of adhesive systems, except for the control groups. The metallic brackets were cemented using two orthodontic cements (Transbond™ Plus Color Change, 3M Unitek e Transbond™ XT Light, 3M Unitek). The specimens we…

Influence of thermal and mechanical fatigue on the shear bond strength of different all-ceramic systems

BACKGROUND To evaluate the influence of thermal and mechanical fatigue on the shear bond strength of different all-ceramic cores and veneering porcelain interfaces. MATERIAL AND METHODS All-ceramic systems tested were lithium disilicate and zirconia veneered by layering technique. Sixty specimens (n=20) were subjected to shear bond strength. Ten of them were thermal and mechanical cycled. Fracture analysis was performed with stereomicroscopy and scanning electron microscopy. Energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy analysis was performed across core/veneer interfaces. RESULTS Thermal and mechanical cycling did not influence on bond strength. However, there was significant difference among syste…

Influence of low concentration acid treatment on lithium disilicate core/veneer ceramic bond strength

Objective: This study evaluated the influence of low concentration acid treatment on the shear bond strength between lithium disilicate (LD) infrastructure and veneering porcelain. The surface morphology characteristic after this acid treatment was also examined. Study Design: LD reinforced ceramic cylinders (n=10) (IPS e.max Press, Ivoclar-Vivadent, Schaan, Liechtenstein) were treated (LD-treated) with a low concentration acid solution (Invex Liquid – Ivoclar-Vivadent, Schaan, Liechtenstein) or not treated with the acid solution (LD-untreated). They were veneered with a glass ceramic (IPS e.max Ceram, Ivoclar-Vivadent, Schaan, Liechtenstein). A metal ceramic group (CoCr) was tested as cont…

Study of inks on paper engravings using portable EDXRF spectrometry

Abstract The prints are fragile and delicate art objects that need for its examination a suitable technique for “in situ”, non-destructive and rapid analyses. The energy dispersive X-ray Fluorescence (EDXRF) spectrometry with portable instrumentation offers these analytical properties. In this work we present the EDXRF analyses of eight engravings elaborated with different techniques (etching and heliogravure) from the 17th to 20th centuries. The characterization of the paper is directly done from its EDXRF spectra, whereas the inks are characterized by the ink plus paper analysis after subtracting the background from the paper spectrum. Inorganic components of the paper engravings and inks…

Enamel evaluation by scanning electron microscopy after debonding brackets and removal of adhesive remnants

Made available in DSpace on 2022-04-29T08:27:13Z (GMT). No. of bitstreams: 0 Previous issue date: 2018-03-01 Background: The bonding of accessories in the dental crown during the orthodontic treatment creates microporosities, thus promoting micromechanical retention of the adhesive to the enamel structure. After debonding brackets, at the end of the active orthodontic treatment, a certain amount of adhesive remnants must be mechanically removed from the enamel. The objective of this study was to compare, by means of scanning electron microscopy, three different methods to remove the adhesive remnants after orthodontic bracket removal. Material and Methods: An experimental analytical study w…
