Modeling the epidemiological history of plague in Central Asia: Palaeoclimatic forcing on a disease system over the past millennium

Abstract Background Human cases of plague (Yersinia pestis) infection originate, ultimately, in the bacterium's wildlife host populations. The epidemiological dynamics of the wildlife reservoir therefore determine the abundance, distribution and evolution of the pathogen, which in turn shape the frequency, distribution and virulence of human cases. Earlier studies have shown clear evidence of climatic forcing on contemporary plague abundance in rodents and humans. G protein-coupled receptors (GPCRs) comprise an expanded superfamily of receptors in the human genome. Adhesion class G protein-coupled receptors (adhesion-GPCRs) form the second largest class of GPCRs. Despite the abundance, size, molecular structure, and functions in facilitating cell and matrix contacts in a variety of organ systems, adhesion-GPCRs are by far the most poorly understood GPCR class. Abstract Background To evaluate the feasibility of non-invasive fractional flow reserve (FFR) estimation using histologically-validated assessment of plaque morphology on coronary CTA (CCTA) as inputs to a predictive model further validated against invasive FFR. Observation of the doubly radiative decay η′→γγπ0

Based on a sample of 1.31 billion J/psi events collected with the BESIII detector, we report the study of the doubly radiative decay eta' -> gamma gamma pi(0) for the first time, where the eta' meson is produced via the J/psi -> gamma eta' decay. AbstractThe cotton aphid, Aphis gossypii (Hemiptera: Aphididae), is a serious pest of cotton across the globe, particularly in the cotton agroecosystems of northern China. The cross section for the process e(+)e(-)-> pi(+) pi(-) J/psi is measured precisely at center-of-mass energies from 3.77 to 4.60 GeV using 9 fb(-1) of data collected with the BESIII detector operating at the BEPCII storage ring. Two resonant structures are observed in a fit to the cross section. Ethylene oligomerization with 2-hydroxymethyl-5,6,7-trihydroquinolinyl-8-ylideneamine-Ni(II) chlorides

Abstract A series of Ni complexes of the general formula [2-(MeOH)-8-{N(Ar)}C9H8N]NiCl2, where Ar = 2,6-Me2C6H3 in Ni1; 2,6-Et2C6H3 in Ni2; 2,6-i-Pr2C6H3 in Ni3; 2,4,6-Me3C6H2 in Ni4; 2,6-Et2-4-MeC6H2 in Ni5 and 2,4,6-t-Bu3C6H2 in Ni6 has been synthesized and characterized by elemental analysis and IR spectroscopy. On activation with MMAO or Et2AlCl, these complexes showed high activity in ethylene oligomerization, reaching 2.23 × 106 g·mol–1 (Ni) h–1 at 30 °C with the Al/Ni ratio of 5500 and 9.11 × 105 g·mol–1 (Ni) h–1 with the Al/Ni of 800, respectively. Measurement of thee+e−→ηJ/ψcross section and search fore+e−→π0J/ψat center-of-mass energies between 3.810 and 4.600 GeV

Using data samples collected with the BESIII detector operating at the BEPCII collider at 17 center-of-mass energies from 3.810 to 4.600 GeV, we perform a study of e(+)e(-) -> eta J/psi and pi(0)J/psi The Born cross sections of these two processes are measured at each center-of-mass energy. The measured energy-dependent Born cross section for e(+)e(-) -> eta J/psi shows an enhancement around 4.2 GeV. The measurement is compatible with an earlier measurement by Belle.

New functions and signaling mechanisms for the class of adhesion G protein-coupled receptors

The class of adhesion G protein-coupled receptors (aGPCRs), with 33 human homologs, is the second largest family of GPCRs. In addition to a seven-transmembrane α-helix-a structural feature of all GPCRs-the class of aGPCRs is characterized by the presence of a large N-terminal extracellular region. In addition, all aGPCRs but one (GPR123) contain a GPCR autoproteolysis-inducing (GAIN) domain that mediates autoproteolytic cleavage at the GPCR autoproteolysis site motif to generate N- and a C-terminal fragments (NTF and CTF, respectively) during protein maturation. Nickel(II) complexes with sterically hindered 5,6,7-trihydroquinoline derivatives selectively dimerizing ethylene to 1-butene

A series of nickel complexes bearing N,N-bidentate ligands has been synthesized and characterized by elemental analysis and infrared (IR) spectroscopy. High ethylene dimerization activity, reaching 2.43 × 106 g mol−1(Ni)h−1, was achieved by using these complexes as precatalysts activated with Me2AlCl. Moreover, the selectivity to obtain α-C4 was high (93%–96%). Comparing with the previous report by our group, the higher activity and selectivity may be attributed to the substituent at the 2-position within the ligand, creating the steric hindrance around the metal atom.

Risk perception and gratitude mediate the negative relationship between COVID-19 management satisfaction and public anxiety

AbstractIn this study, we explored whether satisfaction with government management, perception of risk, and gratitude influenced public anxiety during the COVID-19 pandemic in China. Using a cross-sectional, anonymous and confidential online survey, a nationwide sample of Chinese adults (N = 876) was targeted between March 25–March 30, 2020, a period in which newly confirmed cases significantly declined in China. The anxiety level was decreased as compared to that assessed during the peak period. Epidemiology and outcomes of hospital-acquired bloodstream infections in intensive care unit patients: the EUROBACT-2 international cohort study.

Purpose: In the critically ill, hospital-acquired bloodstream infections (HA-BSI) are associated with significant mortality. Granular data are required for optimizing management, and developing guidelines and clinical trials. Methods: We carried out a prospective international cohort study of adult patients (≥ 18 years of age) with HA-BSI treated in intensive care units (ICUs) between June 2019 and February 2021. Results: 2600 patients from 333 ICUs in 52 countries were included. 78% HA-BSI were ICU-acquired. Median Sequential Organ Failure Assessment (SOFA) score was 8 [IQR 5; 11] at HA-BSI diagnosis.
