Risk perception and gratitude mediate the negative relationship between COVID-19 management satisfaction and public anxiety

AbstractIn this study, we explored whether satisfaction with government management, perception of risk, and gratitude influenced public anxiety during the COVID-19 pandemic in China. Using a cross-sectional, anonymous and confidential online survey, a nationwide sample of Chinese adults (N = 876) was targeted between March 25–March 30, 2020, a period in which newly confirmed cases significantly declined in China. The anxiety level was decreased as compared to that assessed during the peak period. Multiple parallel mediation modeling demonstrated that risk perception and gratitude partially mediated the relationship between satisfaction with government management and public anxiety. Increasi…

Modeling the epidemiological history of plague in Central Asia: Palaeoclimatic forcing on a disease system over the past millennium

Abstract Background Human cases of plague (Yersinia pestis) infection originate, ultimately, in the bacterium's wildlife host populations. The epidemiological dynamics of the wildlife reservoir therefore determine the abundance, distribution and evolution of the pathogen, which in turn shape the frequency, distribution and virulence of human cases. Earlier studies have shown clear evidence of climatic forcing on contemporary plague abundance in rodents and humans. Results We find that high-resolution palaeoclimatic indices correlate with plague prevalence and population density in a major plague host species, the great gerbil (Rhombomys opimus), over 1949-1995. Climate-driven models trained…

Dissecting signaling and functions of adhesion G protein-coupled receptors

G protein-coupled receptors (GPCRs) comprise an expanded superfamily of receptors in the human genome. Adhesion class G protein-coupled receptors (adhesion-GPCRs) form the second largest class of GPCRs. Despite the abundance, size, molecular structure, and functions in facilitating cell and matrix contacts in a variety of organ systems, adhesion-GPCRs are by far the most poorly understood GPCR class. Adhesion-GPCRs possess a unique molecular structure, with extended N-termini containing various adhesion domains. In addition, many adhesion-GPCRs are autoproteolytically cleaved into an N-terminal fragment (NTF, NT, α-subunit) and C-terminal fragment (CTF, CT, β-subunit) at a conserved GPCR au…

Coronary plaque assessment of Vasodilative capacity by CT angiography effectively estimates fractional flow reserve.

Abstract Background To evaluate the feasibility of non-invasive fractional flow reserve (FFR) estimation using histologically-validated assessment of plaque morphology on coronary CTA (CCTA) as inputs to a predictive model further validated against invasive FFR. Methods Patients (n = 113, 59 ± 8.9 years, 77% male) with suspected coronary artery disease (CAD) who had undergone CCTA and invasive FFR between August 2013 and May 2018 were included. Commercially available software was used to extract quantitative plaque morphology inclusive of both vessel structure and composition. The extracted plaque morphology was then fed as inputs to an optimized artificial neural network to predict lesion-…

International Union of Basic and Clinical Pharmacology. XCIV. Adhesion G Protein–Coupled Receptors

The Adhesion family forms a large branch of the pharmacologically important superfamily of G protein-coupled receptors (GPCRs). As Adhesion GPCRs increasingly receive attention from a wide spectrum of biomedical fields, the Adhesion GPCR Consortium, together with the International Union of Basic and Clinical Pharmacology Committee on Receptor Nomenclature and Drug Classification, proposes a unified nomenclature for Adhesion GPCRs. The new names have ADGR as common dominator followed by a letter and a number to denote each subfamily and subtype, respectively. The new names, with old and alternative names within parentheses, are: ADGRA1 (GPR123), ADGRA2 (GPR124), ADGRA3 (GPR125), ADGRB1 (BAI1…

Extensive magmatism and metamorphism at ca. 3.2 Ga in the eastern Kaapvaal Craton

Abstract The timing of the emergence of modern-style plate tectonics on Earth is of fundamental importance in understanding the thermal and compositional history of the planet. Although the magmatism and metamorphism in the eastern Kaapvaal Craton was thought by some as geological records for mid-Archean subduction at 3.2 Ga, their petrogenesis was fiercely debated. To reveal the nature of the 3.2 Ga magmatism and metamorphism in the eastern Kaapvaal Craton, here we provide a comprehensive zircon and monazite U-Pb geochronological investigation, coupled with in situ trace element and Hf-O isotopic analyses, for the magmatic and metamorphic rocks from the Barberton granitoid-greenstone terra…

Observation of the doubly radiative decay η′→γγπ0

Based on a sample of 1.31 billion J/psi events collected with the BESIII detector, we report the study of the doubly radiative decay eta' -> gamma gamma pi(0) for the first time, where the eta' meson is produced via the J/psi -> gamma eta' decay. The branching fraction of eta' -> gamma gamma pi(0) inclusive decay is measured to be B(eta' -> gamma gamma pi(0))(Incl) = (3.20 +/- 0.07(stat) +/- 0.23(sys)) x 10(-3), while the branching fractions of the dominant process eta' -> gamma omega and the non-resonant component are determined to be B(eta' -> gamma omega) x B(omega -> gamma pi(0)) = (23.7 +/- 1.4(stat) +/- 1.8(sys)) x 10(-4) and B(eta' -> gamma gamma pi(0))(NR) = (6.16 +/- 0.64(stat) +/-…

Species composition and richness of aphid parasitoid wasps in cotton fields in northern China

AbstractThe cotton aphid, Aphis gossypii (Hemiptera: Aphididae), is a serious pest of cotton across the globe, particularly in the cotton agroecosystems of northern China. Parasitic wasps are deemed to be important natural enemies of A. gossypii, but limited information exists about their species composition, richness and seasonal dynamics in northern China. In this study, we combine sampling over a broad geographical area with intensive field trials over the course of three cropping seasons to describe parasitoid-hyperparasitoid communities in cotton crops. We delineate a speciose complex of primary parasitoids and hyperparasitoids associated with A. gossypii. Over 90% of the primary paras…

New functions and signaling mechanisms for the class of adhesion G protein-coupled receptors

The class of adhesion G protein-coupled receptors (aGPCRs), with 33 human homologs, is the second largest family of GPCRs. In addition to a seven-transmembrane α-helix-a structural feature of all GPCRs-the class of aGPCRs is characterized by the presence of a large N-terminal extracellular region. In addition, all aGPCRs but one (GPR123) contain a GPCR autoproteolysis-inducing (GAIN) domain that mediates autoproteolytic cleavage at the GPCR autoproteolysis site motif to generate N- and a C-terminal fragments (NTF and CTF, respectively) during protein maturation. Subsequently, the NTF and CTF are associated noncovalently as a heterodimer at the plasma membrane. While the biological function …

Nickel(II) complexes with sterically hindered 5,6,7-trihydroquinoline derivatives selectively dimerizing ethylene to 1-butene

A series of nickel complexes bearing N,N-bidentate ligands has been synthesized and characterized by elemental analysis and infrared (IR) spectroscopy. High ethylene dimerization activity, reaching 2.43 × 106 g mol−1(Ni)h−1, was achieved by using these complexes as precatalysts activated with Me2AlCl. Moreover, the selectivity to obtain α-C4 was high (93%–96%). Comparing with the previous report by our group, the higher activity and selectivity may be attributed to the substituent at the 2-position within the ligand, creating the steric hindrance around the metal atom.
