La història dels quantificadors indefinits de les llengües romàniques és la història del desenvolupament de nous trets distribucionals per un grup escollit d’adjectius llatins (Company 1991, 1997; Batllori 1998). Aquesta distribució serà responsable de la constitució posterior de la nova subclasse de determinants que anomenem quantificadors. Com s’explica a Zamparelli (2000), l’augment de la complexitat estructural del marge esquerre del SDet suposa l’especialització de paraules que pertanyien a antigues categories per aquestes noves posicions. La quantificació: estudi comparatiu castellà-català
Taking as a point of departure the classification of modern Spanish quantifiers, the paper opens with a brief description of the inventory of these items in medieval language and the basic traits of their syntactic evolution. The same discussion is made for equivalents words in modern and medieval Catalan in order to establish a picture of the significant evolutionary differences between both languages. Finally, for the sake of a future historical syntax of Catalan, we offer a little catalogue of research proposals on this area of Catalan quantifiers.
Evolució de la sintaxi dels contextos de polaritat negativa en castellà i català
In this paper we would like to compare the evolution of the syntax of polar contexts in Catalan and Spanish. By doing so, it would be possible to explain the greater syntactic disponibility of Catalan quantifiers and the important constraints for the same class of words in Spanish. After presenting in the first section the main theoretical questions about polarity in natural languages, we will describe in the second section the syntax of corresponding contexts in Middle Ages for both languages. Then, in the third section we will attend to the evolution towards current situation in order to understand the nature of modern differences between Catalan and Spanish on this area of their syntax.
