On the symbol homomorphism of a certain Frechet algebra of singular integral operators

1985

We prove the surjectivity of the symbol map of the Frechet algebra obtained by completing an algebra of convolution and multiplication operators in the topology generated by all L2-Sobolev norms. The proof is based on an ℝn of Egorov's theorem valid for non-homogeneous principal symbols, discussed in [5], [6]. We use the hyperbolic equation ∂u/∂t=i|D|ηu, 0<η<1, which has its characteristic flow constant at infinity, so that no differentiability of the symbol is required there.

Boundedness and spectral invariance for standard pseudodifferential operators on anisotropically weighted LP-Sobolev spaces

1990

It is shown that pseudodifferential operators with symbols in the standard classes S ρ,δ m (ℝn) define bounded maps between large classes of weighted LP-Sobolev spaces where the growth of the weight does not have to be isotropic. Moreover, the spectrum is independent of the choice of the space.

Complex powers of elliptic pseudodifferential operators

1986

The aim of this paper is the construction of complex powers of elliptic pseudodifferential operators and the study of the analytic properties of the corresponding kernels kS (x,y). For x=y, the case of principal interest, the domain of holomorphy and the singularities of kS (x,x) are shown to depend on the asymptotic expansion of the symbol. For classical symbols, kS (x,x) is known to be meromorphic on ℂ with simple poles in a set of equidistant points on the real axis. In the more general cases considered here, the singularities may be distributed over a half plane and kS (x,x) can not always be extended to337-2. An example is given where kS (x,x) has a vertical line as natural boundary.

Spaces of weighted symbols and weighted sobolev spaces on manifolds

1987

This paper gives an approach to pseudodifferential operators on noncompact manifolds using a suitable class of weighted symbols and Sobolev spaces introduced by H.O. Cordes on ℙ. Here, these spaces are shown to be invariant under certain changes of coordinates. It is therefore possible to transfer them to manifolds with a compatible structure.

Construction de Triplets Spectraux à Partir de Modules de Fredholm

1998

Let (A, H, F) be a p-summable Fredholm module where the algebra A = CT is generated by a discrete group of unitaries in L(H) which is of polynomial growth r. Then we construct a spectral triple (A, H, D) with F = signD which is q-summable for each q > p + r + 1. In case (A, H, F) is (p, infini…

Spectral invariance, ellipticity, and the Fredholm property for pseudodifferential operators on weighted Sobolev spaces

1992

The pseudodifferential operators with symbols in the Grushin classes \~S inf0 supρ,δ , 0 ≤ δ < ρ ≤ 1, of slowly varying symbols are shown to form spectrally invariant unital Frecher-*-algebras (Ψ*-algebras) in L(L 2(R n )) and in L(H γ st ) for weighted Sobolev spaces H infγ sup defined via a weight d function γ. In all cases, the Fredholm property of an operator can be characterized by uniform ellipticity of the symbol. This gives a converse to theorems of Grushin and Kumano-Ta-Taniguchi. Both, the spectrum and the Fredholm spectrum of an operator turn out to be independent of the choices of s, t and γ. The characterization of the Fredholm property by uniform ellipticity leads to an index …

Functional Calculus and Fredholm Criteria for Boundary Value Problems on Noncompact Manifolds

1992

A Boutet de Monvel type calculus is developed for boundary value problems on (possibly) noncompact manifolds. It is based on a class of weighted symbols and Sobolev spaces. If the underlying manifold is compact, one recovers the standard calculus. The following is proven:
