Calculation of bone graft volume using 3D reconstruction system.
Objectives: To obtain bone ?bioreplicas? for determining precisely the amount of biomaterial required for bone regeneration procedure. Study design: A case-control comparison with a total sample size of 20 cases, 10 control and 10 test samples. ?Bioreplicas? were generated from helical CAT scans with 0.5 mm slices, without 3D reconstruction or image filters. Objectives: To determine the frequency of systemic pathologies in patients aged 65 years or more, who require oral care and possibly oral surgery. The most common congenital bleeding disorder is haemophilia. It is a pathology inherited and caused by a defective or an absence of the coagulation factors, so that haemophiliacs cannot form an efficient clot. Purpose: This bibliographical review aims to determine the present situation of the implant-supported milled bar overdenture as a therapeutic option in implantology, as well as to set and compare the techniques and materials currently used for making them. Materials and methods: By searching the main electronic bibliographical data in indexed Medline articles, we obtained a total number of 20 articles that fulfilled the requirements of this bibliographical review. Objective: This article reviews the literature on biomaterials used for bone regeneration. Material and method: A total of seventeen bibliographic sources were found using the MEDLINE database and to avoid the variability of the search terms the thesaurus Mesh was used. Results: These materials act essentially due to their osteoconductive ability, although their osteoinductive capacity is being improved with the use of growth factors. As to their effectiveness, many differences exist between them and some even affect bone regeneration negatively. Bisphosphonates inhibit bone resorption and are used to treat a range of pathologies, including Paget disease, osteoporosis, multiple myeloma and metastases associated with breast or prostate cancer. At present, there is no effective treatment for bisphosphonate induced osteonecrosis, so prevention is extremely important. Since quality of life deteriorates for those suffering osteonecrosis, maximum precautions should be taken with patients at risk, and especially whenever oral surgery, including dental implant placement, is contemplated. The influence of platform switching in dental implants. A literature review.
Introduction: The platform switching concept involves the reduction of the restoration abutment diameter with respect to the diameter of the dental implant. In 1991, dental implants of 5 and 6 mm diameter platforms were introduced. However, matching-diameter prosthetic abutments were not available. These implants were restored with “standard”-diameter prosthetic components (4,1 mm). Long-term follow up around these wide-platforms showed higher levels of bone preservation. Tooth-Implant connection: A bibliographic review
The aim of this study was to carry out a bibliographic review of all available literature addressing the issue of whether or not the connection of teeth to implants by means of a prosthesis is a viable treatment alternative. Twenty articles from a variety of sources were analyzed and classified in order to draw conclusions. Articles were classified by type and an analysis was made of the different variables considered in each study, obtaining percentages of implant survival ranging from 84.4% to 100%, prosthetic complications ranging from 80% to 90%, and the incidence of dental intrusion ranging from 0 to 5.6%. Atraumatic maxillary sinus elevation using threaded bone dilators for immediate implants. A three-year clinical study.
Objective: The aim of this study was to evaluate the efficacy of sinus floor elevation using sequential bone dilators. Materials and Methods: Thirty patients took part in the study (18 women and 12 men) with ages ranging between thirty-six and sixty-three years, selected according to inclusion and exclusion criteria, who showed a bone deficit in the upper posterior alveolar margin of 5-8 mm in height. Sixty expanded platform internal connection implants were placed with diameters of 4/5/4 mm and lengths varying between 10 (n=10) and 11.5 mm (n= 50). Effectiveness of malic acid 1% in patients with xerostomia induced by antihypertensive drugs
Objectives: Assessing the clinical effectiveness of a topical sialogogue on spray (malic acid, 1%) in the treatment of xerostomia induced by antihypertensive drugs. Study Design: This research has been carried out through a randomized double-blind clinical trial. 45 patients suffering from hypertensive drugs-induced xerostomia were divided into 2 groups: the first group (25 patients) received a topical sialogogue on spray (malic acid, 1%) whereas the second group (20 patients) received a placebo.
