Cerebrospinal fluid pharmacokinetics of ceftaroline in neurosurgical patients with an external ventricular drain
IF 5.217; International audience; BackgroundOwing to its antibacterial properties, ceftaroline could be attractive for prevention or treatment of bacterial post-neurosurgical meningitis/ventriculitis. However, few data are available concerning its meningeal concentrations.ObjectivesTo investigate ceftaroline CSF pharmacokinetics in ICU patients with an external ventricular drain (EVD).MethodsPatients received a single 600 mg dose of ceftaroline as a 1 h intravenous infusion. Blood and CSF samples were collected before and 0.5, 1, 3, 6, 12 and 24 h after the end of the infusion. Concentrations were assayed in plasma and CSF by LC–MS/MS. A two-step compartmental pharmacokinetic analysis was c…
Cerebrospinal Fluid Glucose and Lactate Levels After Subarachnoid Hemorrhage: A Multicenter Retrospective Study.
BACKGROUND In patients with subarachnoid hemorrhage (SAH), abnormalities in glucose and lactate metabolism have been described using cerebral microdialysis. Glucose and lactate concentrations in cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) are more easily accessible, but scarce data are available in this setting. The aim of this study is to assess the relationship of CSF glucose and lactate with blood concentrations and with unfavorable neurological outcome after SAH. METHODS A retrospective cohort study was conducted in 5 European University intensive care units. Patients aged 18 years and above who were admitted after a nontraumatic SAH over a 4-year period (2011 to 2014) were included if they had an extern…
Comparison of heparin to citrate as a catheter locking solution for non-tunneled central venous hemodialysis catheters in patients requiring renal replacement therapy for acute renal failure (VERROU-REA study): study protocol for a randomized controlled trial.
Background The incidence of acute kidney injury (AKI) is estimated at 10 to 20% in patients admitted to intensive care units (ICU) and often requires renal replacement therapy (RRT). ICU mortality in AKI patients can exceed 50%. Venous catheters are the preferred vascular access method for AKI patients requiring RRT, but carry a risk of catheter thrombosis or infection. Catheter lock solutions are commonly used to prevent such complications. Heparin and citrate locks are both widely used for tunneled, long-term catheters, but few studies have compared citrate versus heparin for patients with short-term, non-tunneled catheters. We aim to compare citrate 4% catheter lock solution versus hepar…
