Entry distribution of 220Th: A method to determine the fission barrier of an unstable nucleus
Evidence for a two-phonon octupole vibrational state in208Pb
Collective properties of206,208Pb have been investigated with gamma-ray spectroscopy using nuclear and electromagnetic excitation by208Pb projectiles. From the measurement of particle-particle-γ and particle-particle-γ γ coincidences a new energy level in208Pb at 5.683 MeV was observed and the data suggest an interpretation as a 2-phonon octupole vibrational state with spin 4+ or 6+. For this state one finds the same dynamical deformation parameterβ3 as for the first-excited collective 3− state. Energy dependence of collective flow of neutrons and protons in197Au+197Au collisions
We investigate the beam energy dependence of neutron and proton squeeze-out in collisions of197Au+197Au atE/A=400—800 MeV. The azimuthal anisotropy that describes the enhanced emission of mid-rapidity neutrons perpendicular to the reaction plane rises strongly with the transverse momentum of the neutrons. This dependence of the azimuthal anisotropy follows a universal curve — independent of beam energy — if the neutron momenta are measured in fractions of the projectile momentum per mass unit. Analogously, the kinetic energy spectra of mid-rapidity neutrons exhibit a universal behaviour as a function of the kinetic energy of the projectile.
Response of BGO detectors to photons of 3–50 MeV energy
Abstract The response of an array of 7 hexagonal BGO detectors each 7.5 cm long (6.7 radiation lengths) with 3.6 cm side-to-side distance was measured using monochromatic photons from the tagged-photon facility at the electron accelerator MAMI A at Mainz. The experimental spectra of the deposited energy for a single detector and for the array of seven modules compare very well with the predictions of Monte Carlo shower simulations using the code GEANT3. Significant improvement of the energy resolution is observed for the summed energy spectra compared to the resolution of a single module. Electromagnetic excitation of the two-phonon giant dipole resonance
Abstract The nuclear response of 136 Xe and 208 Pb to electromagnetic excitation was studied in peripheral, near-relativistic heavy-ion collisions. Large cross sections were observed for the one-phonon and two-phonon isovector giant dipole resonance. The results, in particular the unexpectedly large strength found for the double giant dipole resonance, are discussed and compared to that of other recent measurements.
Half-life ofTi44
The half-life of $^{44}\mathrm{Ti}$ has been measured to be ${T}_{\frac{1}{2}}=54.2\ifmmode\pm\else\textpm\fi{}2.1$ yr, somewhat higher than previously published values of 46.4\ifmmode\pm\else\textpm\fi{}1.7 and 48.2\ifmmode\pm\else\textpm\fi{}0.9 yr. The present value was obtained from the specific activity and the radioisotope concentration of several Ti${\mathrm{O}}_{2}$ samples, each spiked with a $^{44}\mathrm{Ti}$ activity of about 1.2 \ensuremath{\mu}Ci. Proton Inelastic Scattering onNi56in Inverse Kinematics
Inelastic proton scattering to the first excited ${2}^{+}$ state of the doubly magic $^{56}\mathrm{Ni}$ nucleus was investigated in inverse kinematics, using a secondary beam of radioactive $^{56}\mathrm{Ni}$ nuclei. At an incident energy of 101 MeV/nucleon, a value $B(E2,{0}^{+}\ensuremath{\rightarrow}{2}^{+})=600\ifmmode\pm\else\textpm\fi{}120 {e}^{2}$ ${\mathrm{fm}}^{4}$ was measured. This result completes the set of experimental data for the first excited ${2}^{+}$ states in the $1f\ensuremath{-}2p$ shell with a closed shell of neutrons or protons. These data are compared to recent shell-model calculations.
Investigation of the (d, p)-reaction on136, 132Xe in inverse kinematics
The one-neutron transfer reactions d(132,136 Xe, p)133,137 Xe have been investigated in inverse kinematics with xenon beams incident on deuterium loaded titanium targets. The angular distributions of the protons, measured with a detector array of 100 PIN-photodiodes, have been analyzed using standard DWBA. Generally, good agreement is obtained with results previously obtained in reactions induced by light-ion beams.
