EDSS correlated analysis of median nerve somatosensory evoked potentials in multiple sclerosis

2001

Median nerve somatosensory evoked potentials (SEP) were recorded in 30 patients with multiple sclerosis. The examined patients had an expanded disability status scale (EDSS) between 0 and 6. The primary cortical potential N20, the subcortical potentials P14, N13b, N13a and the peripheral potential P9 were recorded simultaneously. In 5 patients normal SEP were observed (group 1), and in 6 patients there were consecutive disturbances of the somatosensory pathway (group 3). In 19 patients subcortical potentials were abnormal or absent while the following potentials were normal or identified which pattern corresponds to amplification within CNS structures (group 2). The EDSS of groups 1 and 2 w…

On the Trustworthiness of Error-Correcting Codes

2007

The use of error-correcting codes protects data against accidental or intentional errors, but to what extent can a decoded message be trusted? To answer this question, one has to take the role of the receiver. First, the maximum number of errors Lambda acceptable for decoding is fixed. With the weight distribution, the probability of false decoding can be calculated, conditioned on such a Lambda-bounded strategy. This probability is a monotonously increasing function in the channel error probability p and in the maximum number of accepted errors Lambda. Therefore, pure error detection is more trustworthy than error correction. Moreover, for sufficiently small p, codes with the lexicographic…

Tumorregression maligner Aderhautmelanome nach Transpupillarer Thermotherapie (TTT) versus Ruthenium-Brachytherapie und Sandwichtherapie – eine vergl…

2010

PURPOSE: The aim of this study was to evaluate tumour regression in a large series of choroidal melanomas, which were treated with three different eye-sparing treatment modalities. PATIENTS AND METHODS: Retrospective review of the treatment results in all eyes with malignant choroidal melanoma, which were treated in the University Eye Clinic of Mainz consecutively in the time span 1.1992 to 12.2000 with transpupillary thermotherapy (TTT, standard protocol Oosterhuis JA 1995), ruthenium brachytherapy (RB, tumor apex dose 150 Gy) or sandwich therapy (ST). One-step ST was defined as TTT followed by RB with 100 Gy tumor apex dose within 48 hours. The treatment of residual prominences with TTT s…
