Analyzing the teeth next to the alveolar cleft: Examination and treatment proposal prior to bone grafting based on three-dimensional versus two-dimensional diagnosis—A diagnostic study

Abstract Purpose The objective was to evaluate the diagnostic and prognostic value of three-dimensional (3D) cone beam computed tomography (CBCT) on information about the cleft and alignment of cleft neighboring teeth. Materials and methods Panoramic X-rays, small-volume CBCTs, and study casts of 20 patients with a total of 22 alveolar clefts were analyzed prior to secondary bone grafting. Cholesteatoma of the hypotympanum in a patient with Treacher Collins syndrome

In the present article we report a cholesteatoma of the hypotympanum extending to the jugular foramen in a 16-year-old male with Treacher Collins syndrome. Preoperative imaging excluded jugular paraganglioma and set the diagnosis of cholesteatoma. We discuss the operative treatment via a large hypotympanotomy and creation of an open hypotympanic cavity. To the authors' knowledge this is the first description of hypotympanal cholesteatoma with such an extension, being treated through this approach.

Untersuchungen über die Frustrationstoleranz von jugendlichen und erwachsenen Patienten mit LKG-Spalten

Aufgrund der Untersuchung von 130 Patienten mit Lippen-Kiefer-Gaumen-Spalten mit dem Rosenzweig Picture-Frustration-Test lassen sich folgende Tendenzen feststellen: 1. Spaltpatienten haben eine geringere Frustrationstoleranz, sie scheinen weniger in der Lage zu sein, sich mit Gelassenheit uber Konfliktsituationen hinwegzusetzen. Sie versuchen, Auseinandersetzungen auszuweichen. 2. Weibliche Spaltpatienten haben mehr Schwierigkeiten als mannliche, sich durchzusetzen. 3. Jungere Patienten zeigen mehr Schuldgefuhle und Autoaggression. 4. Eine Patientengruppe mit schlechterer Primarversorgung zeigte insgesamt starkere Normabweichungen als die anderen Patientengruppen.

Surgically Assisted Rapid Palatal Expansion An Acoustic Rhinometric, Morphometric and Sonographic Investigation

This study aimed to evaluate the effect of surgically assisted rapid palatal expansion on the skeletal structures of the midface. Ten patients (mean age 28.5 years) were investigated by means of acoustic rhinometry, study model analysis and sonography before and after the procedure of surgically assisted rapid palatal expansion.
