A new and expeditious strategy for the synthesis of β-amino acids from Δ2-oxazolines

Abstract A new, mild two-step synthesis of racemic β-amino acids starting from 2-alkyl-Δ2-oxazolines is described. The process implies the initial formation of masked N-substituted or N-unsubstituted β-enamino acid derivatives followed by chemoselective reduction of the enamino moiety. The process takes place with high yields, total chemoselectivity and moderate diastereoselectivity.

ChemInform Abstract: Synthesis and Reactivity of β-Amino α,β-Unsaturated Oxa- and Thiazolines.

Abstract A simple and efficient route to masked β-amino-α,β-unsaturated acids 3 by reaction of metalated oxa- and thiazolines with nitriles has been developed. The reactivity of 3 has also been explored.

ChemInform Abstract: C-C versus C-N Annulation Reactions of 2-Alkyl-2-oxazolines and 2-Alkyl-2-thiazolines: A Simple Synthesis of Novel 3-Aminoindene, Phthalimidine, Pyrrolidine, and Piperidine Derivatives.

The effect of various aromatic and aliphatic dielectrophiles on the lithium azaenolates of 2-alkyl-2-oxazolines and 2-alkyl-2-thiazolines has been examined. This effect varies greatly, depending on the nature of the dielectrophile used. 3-Aminoindene (3) and 3-alkylidenephthalimidine (4−5) derivatives were formed as a result of the reactions with dielectrophiles derived from ortho-substituted benzonitriles. Similarly, 2-alkylidenepyrrolidine (7) and 2-alkylidenepiperidine (8) derivatives were obtained in high yields from 2-alkyl-2-oxazolines or 2-alkyl-2-thiazolines and aliphatic dielectrophiles derived from ω-haloalkyldiphenylacetonitrile. C−C versus C−N annulation reactions are discussed.

Epidemiology and characteristics of febrile neutropenia in oncology patients from Spanish tertiary care hospitals: PINNACLE study.

Febrile neutropenia (FN) is one of the most common adverse events associated with myelosuppressive chemotherapy for cancer treatment. The objective of this study was to describe the incidence of hospitalization due to FN in Spanish tertiary care hospitals (PINNACLE study). This epidemiological, retrospective, multicenter, nationwide study involved 119 patients from oncology units of 10 Spanish tertiary care hospitals who were admitted for FN. The primary endpoint was to assess the epidemiology and characteristics of FN. The incidence of admissions due to FN in oncology patients was 2.0% (interquartile range [IQR], 1.6–3.0). In terms of fever and absolute neutrophil count (ANC), 37.0% of the…
