Development of a Textile Nanocomposite as Naked Eye Indicator of the Exposition to Strong Acids

2017

[EN] Chemical burns, mainly produced by acids, are a topic of concern. A new sensing material for the detection of strong acids able to be incorporated into textiles has been developed. The material is prepared by the covalent attachment of 2,2 ',4,4 ',4 ''-pentamethoxy triphenyl methanol to a mesoporous material which further is included in a nitro resin to obtain a colourless composite. The response of this composite to diverse acid solutions was tested showing the appearance of an intense purple colour (with a colour difference higher than 160) that can be monitored by the naked eye or could be easily digitised to feed an instrumental sensor. Reversibility and resistance to washing cycle…

Enzyme-Controlled Nanodevice for Acetylcholine-Triggered Cargo Delivery Based on Janus Au–Mesoporous Silica Nanoparticles

2017

[EN] This work reports a new gated nanodevice for acetylcholine-triggered cargo delivery. We prepared and characterized Janus Au-mesoporous silica nanoparticles functionalized with acetylcholinesterase on the Au face and with supramolecular b-cyclodextrin: benzimidazole inclusion complexes as caps on the mesoporous silica face. The nanodevice is able to selectively deliver the cargo in the presence of acetylcholine via enzyme-mediated acetylcholine hydrolysis, locally lowering the pH and opening the supramolecular gate. Given the key role played by ACh and its relation with Parkinson's disease and other nervous system diseases, we believe that these findings could help design new therapeuti…

A Sensitive Nanosensor for the In Situ Detection of the Cannibal Drug.

2020

[EN] A bio-inspired nanodevice for the selective and sensitive fluorogenic detection of 3,4- methylenedioxypyrovalerone (MDPV), usually known as Cannibal drug, is reported. The sensing nanodevice is based on mesoporous silica nanoparticles (MSNs), loaded with a fluorescent reporter (rhodamine B) and functionalized on their external surface with a dopamine derivative (3), which specifically interacts with the recombinant human dopamine transporter (DAT), capping the pores. In the presence of MDPV, DAT detaches from the MSNs consequently causing rhodamine B release and allowing drug detection. The nanosensor shows a detection limit of 5.2 µM and it is able to detect the MDPV drug both in sali…

Transition metal binding properties of the redox-active 1,4,7,10,13,16-hexa(ferrocenylmethyl)-1,4,7,10,13,16-hexaazacyclooctadecane and its electroch…

1999

Abstract Solution studies to elucidate the coordination behaviour and the electrochemical response of the ferrocene-functionalized polyazamacrocycle 1,4,7,10,13,16-hexa(ferrocenylmethyl)-1,4,7,10,13,16-hexaazacyclooctadecane (L1) by potentiometric methods and electrochemical techniques have been carried out. Potentiometric methods in the presence of Cd2+, Hg2+, Pb2+ and Zn2+ were carried out in 1,4-dioxane/water (70:30 v/v, 25°C, 0.1 mol dm−3 KNO3). Electrochemical studies were carried out in acetonitrile/dichloromethane (50:50 v/v, 25°C, 0.1 mol dm−3 TBAClO4) in the presence of transition metal ions and anions.

Silica-based powders and monoliths with bimodal pore systems

2002

Porous pure and doped silicas with pore sizes at two length scales (meso/macroporous) have been prepared and shaped both as powders and monoliths through a one-pot surfactant assisted procedure by using a simple template agent and starting from atrane complexes as inorganic precursors.
