In vivo comparison of working length determination with two electronic apex locators: Root-ZX and Dentaport Root-ZX.
ABSTRACT Background:: The purpose of our study is to compare the accuracy of two electronic apex locators (EALs) in the same teeth in vivo: Root ZX and Dentaport Root-ZX. Methods and Materials: Twenty-two adult patients, ages 36-71. Thirty single-rooted teeth with one canal that were scheduled for extraction for prosthetic or orthodontic reasons were used. Before commencement of the study was obtained and written consent from each patient. The teeth had completely formed apices confirmed by radiographic evaluation before treatment. The access cavity was prepareted and been identified the root canals and their patency was assessed with k-file #10.The working length were determined by a singl…

Two-particle transverse momentum correlations in pp and p-Pb collisions at energies available at the CERN Large Hadron Collider
Two-particle transverse momentum differential correlators, recently measured in Pb--Pb collisions at energies available at the CERN Large Hadron Collider (LHC), provide an additional tool to gain insights into particle production mechanisms and infer transport properties, such as the ratio of shear viscosity to entropy density, of the medium created in Pb-Pb collisions. The longitudinal long-range correlations and the large azimuthal anisotropy measured at low transverse momenta in small collision systems, namely pp and p-Pb, at LHC energies resemble manifestations of collective behaviour. This suggests that locally equilibrated matter may be produced in these small collision systems, simil…
Antiretroviral genotypic resistance in plasma RNA and whole blood DNA in HIV-1 infected patients failing HAART
The extent to which HIV-1 proviral DNA mutations cause clinically relevant antiretroviral resistance is still controversial. Paired plasma HIV-1 RNA and whole blood DNA were compared in patients failing HAART to investigate if the additional knowledge of archived mutations could improve the selection of potentially active drugs. Seventy-three HIV-1-infected patients with first/second HAART failure were studied before starting a new regimen based on RNA genotyping. Follow-up data after a 12-week therapy were available. DNA genotyping was retrospectively performed on stored whole blood samples and mutational profiles were compared to those from RNA. The mean number of IAS pol mutations was si…
Innovations in endodontic filling materials
One of the goals of endodontic treatment is to achieve a complete, tridimensional, hermetic sealing of the root canal system to prevent the entry of microorganisms or their products through both the coronal and apical pathways. Gutta-percha is the most widely used material for root canal filling and despite its numerous properties, such as biocompatibility and thermoplasticity, it has however an important limit: the lack of adhesion to the canal walls. Attempts to address this problem have been made over the years by using endodontic cements capable of bonding to canal dentine but their tendency to resorption in time can compromise the quality of treatment. The first step towards a real adh…
