The Ruhr coal district represents part of an external fold and thrust belt of the Variscan orogen in central Europe. Extensive mining exposed molasse-type, coal-bearing clastic sequences of Upper Carboniferous age, deformed by folding and thrusting. Thrusts range in scale from decameters to 40 kilometers along strike but displacements are below 2.5 km. They are distributed in various stratigraphic levels and no regional detachment horizon is exposed. Displacement is mainly towards NW (towards the foreland) but also towards SE. Capillaries within human skeletal muscle fibers.

Internalized capillaries, i.e. capillaries within muscle fibers, represent a rare myopathological feature. This was systematically studied in 923 muscle biopsy specimens and found in 24, chiefly in the gastrocnemius muscle, more rarely in the biceps and quadriceps muscles affecting males more often than females and most frequently associated with juvenile spinal muscular atrophy or Becker's muscular dystrophy. Internalized capillaries, often multiple, ran along the long axis of the muscle fiber within an "internalized" extracellular space and were almost exclusively seen in type I myofibers. Die wasrigen Losungen der Jodkomplexe von Starke, verschiedenen Amylosen und Amylopektinen zeigen im Bereich der betreffenden Absorptionsmaxima einen induzierten positiven Cotton-Effekt. Die Drehwerte hangen in der gleichen Weise vom Jod-Amylose-Verhaltnis ab wie die Extinktionen bei 660 und 445 mμ. Die Drehwerte einiger Jod-Polysaccharid-Komplexe nehmen mit der Zeit stark zu, obwohl die Extinktion konstant bleibt. Masnahmen, durch welche die Struktur der Jod-Einschlusverbindung verandert wird (Erwarmung, Zusatz von Salzen, Losungsmitteln, Harnstoff, Netzmitteln) haben einen starken Einflus auf den induzierten Cotton-Effekt.

Die Splenomegalie ist ein Leitsymptom sowohl bei der chronisch-myeloischen Leukamie als auch bei der Myelofibrose. 1965 haben Fischer u. Wolf [2, 3], erstmalig darauf hingewiesen, das sich die Milz bei den beiden Erkrankungen im Hinblick auf die Elimination von warmealterierten Erythrocyten grundverschieden verhalt: Die Extraktionsgeschwindigkeit ist bei der Myelofibrose beschleunigt, bei der chronischmyeloischen Leukamie dagegen hochgradig verzogert.

The RES as an especially active, functionally versatile, and very extended system has its most important concentration of tissue in the spleen. Till now it was possible only to investigate this organ by cytological and histological methods. Clinical function tests of the spleen were completely unknown until recently. Such investigations have now become possible by labeling the blood cells with gamma-emitting radioisotopes and the development of external counting techniques.

Direct mass measurements of the low-spin 3/2− and high-spin 13/2+ states in the neutron-deficient isotopes Po195 and Po197 were performed with the Penning-trap mass spectrometer ISOLTRAP at ISOLDE-CERN. These measurements allow the determination of the excitation energy of the isomeric state arising from the νi13/2 orbital in Po195,197. Additionally, the excitation energy of isomeric states of lead, radon, and radium isotopes in this region were obtained from α-decay chains. These excitation energies complete the knowledge of the energy systematics in the region and confirm that the 13/2+ states remain isomeric, independent of the number of valence neutrons.
