Remineralization effects of conventional and experimental ion-releasing materials in chemically or bacterially-induced dentin caries lesions

2019

Abstract Objectives The aim of this study was to evaluate the remineralization effects of conventional and experimental ion-releasing materials on different artificial dentin carious lesions. Methods Forty human dentin discs were submitted to different demineralization protocols for simulated caries lesion: (D1) Shallow chemically-induced caries, (D2) deep chemically-induced caries, (D3) deep bacterially-induced caries. Each disc was divided in five parts; one of those served as baseline control. The remaining parts of each disc (n = 12–16/group) were treated using the following materials: EXP, an experimental resin-based bioactive material consisting of a self-etch primer and an adhesive c…

Effect of ozone therapy upon clinical and bacteriological parameters of the oral cavity: an update

2011

Objective: To review the literature on ozone therapy in oral health, as assessed by different clinical and bacteriological parameters. Material and methods: A PubMed literature search was made using the key words “ozone dental”, and establishing as limits “randomized controlled trial” and “dental journal”. Thirteen articles were identified, with access to only 6 of them. Results: Four studies used ozone for the treatment of caries. One study examined its effect upon dental hypersensitivity, while another evaluated the efficacy of ozone as a tooth whitening technique. Five studies explored the bacteriological actions of ozone therapy in reference to different types of bacteria. Conclusion: T…

The effect of dentine pre-treatment using bioglass and/or polyacrylic acid on the interfacial characteristics of resin-modified glass ionomer cements.

2018

Objective To evaluate the effect of load-cycle aging and/or 6 months artificial saliva (AS) storage on bond durability and interfacial ultramorphology of resin-modified glass ionomer cement (RMGIC) applied to dentine air-abraded using Bioglass 45S5 (BAG) with/without polyacrylic acid (PAA) conditioning. Methods RMGIC (Ionolux, VOCO) was applied onto human dentine specimens prepared with silicon-carbide abrasive paper or air-abraded with BAG with or without the use of PAA conditioning. Half of bonded-teeth were submitted to load cycling (150,000 cycles) and half immersed in deionised water for 24 h. They were cut into matchsticks and submitted immediately to microtensile bond strength (μTBS) …

Aesthetic dentistry : chromatic appreciation in the clinic and the laboratory

2006

Aesthetic requirement in dentistry is getting more and more important every day. One of its basic principles …
