In cooperatively breeding species, in which non-breeding helpers assist in rearing the offspring of breeding individuals, conflicts of interest commonly occur between breeders and helpers over their respective contributions to offspring care. During such conflicts, breeders might use aggressive behavior to enforce contributions of helpers to offspring care, especially if helpers are not related to the breeders and their offspring and thus do not stand to gain indirect fitness benefits by helping. Femtosecond time-resolved photoemission electron microscopy operated at sample illumination from the rear side

We present an advanced experimental setup for time-resolved photoemission electron microscopy (PEEM) with sub-20 fs resolution, which allows for normal incidence and highly local sample excitation with ultrashort laser pulses. The scheme makes use of a sample rear side illumination geometry that enables us to confine the sample illumination spot to a diameter as small as 6 μm. We demonstrate an operation mode in which the spatiotemporal dynamics following a highly local excitation of the sample is globally probed with a laser pulse illuminating the sample from the front side. Traditionally, pedigrees are used to shed light on the latter only, while here we discuss the application of polygenic risk scores to also highlight patterns of common genetic risk. Mast cells (MC) are key effector cells in allergic reactions but also involved in host defence, tissue remodeling, angiogenesis, and fibrogenesis. Here, we show that human intestinal fibroblasts (FB) suppress apoptosis in human intestinal MC dependent on IL-6. Intestinal FB produced IL-6 upon direct stimulation by intestinal MC in co-culture or by MC mediators such as TNF-α, IL-1β, tryptase or histamine. MC incubated with IL-6 survived for up to 3 weeks similar to MC co-cultured with FB and MC survival could be blocked by neutralizing anti-IL-6 Abs.
