In The God of Small Things, Arundhati Roy separates English from Englishspeakers. She reappropriates the language not only to portray complex characters and narrative themes, but also to create a postcolonial discourse that criticizes, questions and subverts the old dominance of the imperial colonizer. Mainly addressed to a western audience, the use of Inglish in this novel is a crucial factor to reveal the development of a hybrid conscience, reassert the Indian identity and make the reader feel displaced from their native tongue

Este artículo crítica el fenómeno de la inmigración infantil como crimen moderno contra la humanidad, un problema que paradójicamente se incrementa con los años. La gravedad de esta situación es sin duda todavía más acuciante cuando este tipo de esclavitud y este tráfico humano afectan al menor y se convierte en explotación infantil.

In Dead Before Dying the first of Deon Meyer's novels to be translated from Afrikaans to English, the author uses the voices of his main characters to paint a picture of 'New' South Africa. In this interview, which took place in Cape Town in October 2009, Meyer discusses the impulse that led him to write crime stories and his own involvement in the transformation of his novels from Afrikaans to English. He speaks of his research on the activities and more importantly the emotions and reactions of policemen, of his difficult relations with his father and the different positions assumed by his generation in comparison with those of their parents.

Muchos son los estudios que se han ocupado de la poesía deJosé de Espronceda en comparación con la de Lord Byron, como si lanecesidad de establecer una conexión con el romanticismo europeo fueranecesaria para legitimar su originalidad. En el presente trabajo no solollevamos a cabo un recuento de posibles fuentes bibliográficas de la figuradel pirata en el poema “Canción del pirata”, sino que realizamos unaprofunda comparativa de sus respectivas figuras poéticas, partiendo deotros textos coetáneos, como el de Lasso de la Vega, por ejemplo. Se trata,en definitiva, de un debate aún no cerrado del todo.

Twenty-first century learners face a multi-literacy landscape as they strive to acquire the cognitive skills needed for independent learning, apply linguistic skills to other knowledge base, and become computer literate. This article envisions a combination of skill sets and knowledge bases as the foundation of a literary competence-based curriculum. Such a curriculum would have the goal of enhancing young learners"critical thinking abilities; this would also help them take charge of the cognitive,linguistic, and sociocultural dimensions of written and spoken language in order to make learning transferable and applicable to the real world.

Walter Mosley reappropriates the detective conventions to represent the American society of the 1950s and 1960s from a marginal perspective. He creates a black private eye, Easy Rawlins, whose profile mirrors that of his white counterparts but also subverts it.This thesis analyzes Raymond Chandler's canonical work "The Simple Art of Murder" and establish those traits that characterize Easy Rawlins. Immediately following the 9/11 attacks, a number of picture books for children were published as a response to the new socio-political context in the United States. This article explores how these books constitute an essentialist discourse whose themes and perspectives can be considered strategic. As will be analyzed, they reveal a ¿natural¿ positioning that generates a degree of group identification and constructs drastic dichotomies such as us versus them, by overlooking internal differences, reasserting the values of patriotism and national identity, and fostering the emergence of jingoistic dynamics that bring difference / sameness into play.
