Ridge-line optimal detector

Image processing techniques have seen many developments in recent years. Starting from the pioneering work of Canny, Deriche developed a second order recursive filter capable of detecting stepped contours. However, there are other contour shapes that those filters struggle to detect. We describe a new optimal filter sensu Canny for detecting ridge-line contours. This is a third order recursive and even filter. It is dependent on three parameters by which detection accuracy is adjusted. The results obtained by applying this filter to (possibly noise- affected) images are compared with those in the work by Ziou. © 2000 Society of Photo-Optical Instrumentation Engineers. Generalization of Canny–Deriche filter for detection of noisy exponential edge

This paper presents a generalization of the Canny-Deriche filter for ramp edge detection with optimization criteria used by Canny (signal-to-noise ratio, localization, and suppression of false responses). Using techniques similar to those developed by Deriche, we derive a filter which maximizes the product of the first two criteria under the constraint of the last one. The result is an infinite length impulse response filter which leads to a stable third-order recursive implementation. Its performance shows an increase of the signal-to-noise ratio in the case of blurred and noisy images, compared to the results obtained from Deriche's filter.

Distinguishing Onion Leaves from Weed Leaves Based on Segmentation of Color Images and a BP Neural Network

2006

A new algorithm to distinguish onion leaves from weed leaves in images is suggested. This algorithm is based on segmentation of color images and on BP neural network. It includes: discarding soil for conserving only plants in the image, color image segmentation, merging small regions by analyzing the frontier rates and the averages of color indices of the regions, at last a BP neural network is used to determine if the small regions belongs to onion leaf or not. The algorithm has been applied to many images and the correct identifiable percents for onion leaves are between 80%~ 90%.

Energy balance in single exposure multispectral sensors

In this paper we want to make the distinction between these two layers. Robustness of texture parameters for color texture analysis

This article proposes to deal with noisy and variable size color textures. It also proposes to deal with quantization methods and to see how such methods change final results. The method we use to analyze the robustness of the textures consists of an auto-classification of modified textures. Comparison of metrics to remove the influence of geometrical conditions on soil reflectance

2007

The objective of this work is to find the best metric to ignore the variations of soil reflectance induced by the solar-view angles geometry. Differences between spectra measured for the same soil under different observation and illumination configurations can leads to misclassifications. Using ninety two soils of different composition measured under twenty eight solar- view angles geometries, we tested 3 metrics : RMSE, SAM, R2 (the coefficient of determination) and we compared their performances. The best metric seems to be the coefficient of determination with 93 % of good classifications.

Image simulation of geostationary sensor dedicated to ocean color

A method of image simulation of geostationary sensor dedicated to ocean color for open water (case1) and coastal water (case2) is presented in this paper. This method uses HYDROLIGHT to model the radiative transfer in order to obtain the water surface radiance. MeRIS level 3 products have been used for input water components to provide a realistic spatial distribution. The atmospheric radiative transfer model and the sensor model finely lead to satellite remote sensing images. This system allows to evaluate the dynamic range of BOA and TOA radiances depending on solar and viewing angles in operational situation and latter their influence on water composition retrieval.

Optimization of image parameters using a hyperspectral library application to soil identification and moisture estimation

The growing number of sensors raises questions about the image parameters required for the application, soil identification and moisture estimation. Hyperspectral images are also known to contain highly redundant information. Hence not all the spectral bands are needed for the satisfactory classification of the soil types. Hence, the work was aimed at obtaining these optimal spectral bands for identifying the soil types and to use these spectral bands to estimate the moisture content of the soils using the method proposed by Whiting et.al.

International audience; This paper presents a video-based solution for real time vehicle detection and counting system, using a surveillance camera mounted on a relatively high place to acquire the traffic video stream.The two main methods applied in this system are: the adaptive background estimation and the Gaussian shadow elimination. The former allows a robust moving detection especially in complex scenes. The latter is based on color space HSV, which is able to deal with different size and intensity shadows. After these two operations, it obtains an image with moving vehicle extracted, and then operation counting is effected by a method called virtual detector.

The impact of the solar and sensor angles on band-ratio chlorophyll concentration (Chl) estimation in Case 1 waters (open ocean) is analyzed in this work. The error range of Chl estimation due to angular variation is evaluated. The radiative transfer code Hydrolight is used for remote sensing reflectance simulation for 20 spectral bands. UCS integrates slides, lecture videos and textbooks into a single platform. The keywords extracted from the textbooks and the slides are the basis of the indexing scheme. For the videos, UCS relies on slide transitions and metadata to establish the correspondence between slides and video segments. The video segmentation is based on the slides being presented using the meta-data provided by the video recording software and image processing techniques.

In this article, we offer an original study on the analysis of the texture of colour images based on Local Linear Transforms (LLT). Our colour approach is based on the separability of the data which reduces the number of texture parameters. We also propose the extension of Run Lengths (RL) and Co-occurrence Matrixes (CM) to colour images. In this respect, two different ways were explored (data merging and quantification). Discrete wavelet transform based multispectral filter array demosaicking

International audience; The idea of colour filter array may be adapted to multi-spectral image acquisition by integrating more filter types into the array, and developing associated demosaicking algorithms. Several methods employing discrete wavelet transform (DWT) have been proposed for CFA demosaicking. In this work, we put forward an extended use of DWT for mul-tispectral filter array demosaicking. The extension seemed straightforward, however we observed striking results. This work contributes to better understanding of the issue by demonstrating that spectral correlation and spatial resolution of the images exerts a crucial influence on the performance of DWT based demosaicking.

Optimal band selection for future satellite sensor dedicated to soil science

Hyperspectral imaging systems could be used for identifying the different soil types from the satellites. However, detecting the reflectance of the soils in all the wavelengths involves the use of a large number of sensors with high accuracy and also creates a problem in transmitting the data to earth stations for processing. The current sensors can reach a bandwidth of 20 nm and hence, the reflectance obtained using the sensors are the integration of reflectance obtained in each of the wavelength present in the spectral band. A geometrical approach for inverting display color-characterization models

— Some display color-characterization models are not easily inverted. This work proposes ways to build geometrical inverse models given any forward color-characterization model. The main contribution is to propose and analyze several methods to optimize the 3-D geometrical structure of an inverse color-characterization model directly based on the forward model. Both the amount of data and their distribution in color space is especially focused on. A Database of Spectral Filter Array Images that Combine Visible and NIR

International audience; Spectral filter array emerges as a multispectral imaging technology, which could benefit several applications. Although several instantiations are prototyped and commercialized, there are yet only a few raw data available that could serve research and help to evaluate and design adequate related image processing and algorithms. This document presents a freely available spectral filter array database of images that combine visible and near infra-red information.

Study of plastic deformation modes in zirconium by color image analysis

Abstract Twinning, as a deformation mode, is a complement to slip. This paper deals with the study from a qualitative point of view, as well as from a quantitative one. Besides techniques widely used in materials science studies such as electron backscattered diffraction (EBSD) or X-ray diffraction (XRD), colour image analysis technique are presented here. A Study on the Impact of Spectral Characteristics of Filters on Multispectral Image Acquisition

International audience; In every aspect, filter design plays an important role in an image acquisition system based on a single image sensor and a colour filter array (CFA) mounted onto the sensor. Complementary CFAs are used by some colour cameras in the interest of higher sensitivity, which motivated us to employ filters of wide pass bands in the effort to adapt CFA for multispectral image acquisition. In this context, filter design has an effect on the accuracy of spectrum reconstruction in addition to other aspects. The results show that wider bandwidths in general result in more faithful spectrum reconstruction and higher signal-to-noise performance.

3D ACQUISITION SYSTEM APPLIED TO AGRONOMIC SCENES

International audience; To improve results in automatic wheat ear counting by proxy-detection for early yield prediction, we need depth information of the scene. In this paper, we describe our 3D acquisition system dedicated to reconstruction of agronomic scenes. This system is composed of a camera mounted on a linear displacement driven by a microcontroller. The linear displacement allows acquiring a set of images in different distances to the scene. This image stack is used to apply shape from focus technique which is a passive and monocular 3D reconstruction method.
