Two-Photon Absorption Properties and Structures of BODIPY and Its Dyad, Triad and Tetrad.

A series consisting of a dyad, a triad and a tetrad containing either two, three and four BODIPY units, respectively, has been synthesized and fully characterized and compared to two mono-BODIPY analogs (used as references). The one- and two-photon photophysical properties have been measured and the X-ray structures of four of the BODIPY derivatives have been determined. In the 700-900 nm range, the two-photon absorption (TPA) cross sections range from 30 GM to 160 GM for these compounds.

High-efficiency fullerene free ternary organic solar cells based with two small molecules as donor

Abstract Herein, we have designed a ternary system comprising of two small molecules (B2 and B3), as donor and a narrow bandgap non-fullerene small molecule acceptor Y6. The chemical structures of B2 and B3 are close to each other but their absorption spectra are complementary with different energy levels. Using these small-molecules, a ternary organic solar cell was fabricated. Carbazole-based green and blue-BODIPY dyads and triads as donors for bulk heterojunction organic solar cells.

Two BODIPY derivatives with one (B2) and two (B3) carbazole moieties were synthesized and applied as electron-donor materials in organic photovoltaic cells (OPV). Their optical and electrochemical properties were systematically investigated. These BODIPY dyes exhibit excellent solubility in organic solvents and present high molar extinction coefficients (1.37–1.48 × 105 M−1 cm−1) in solutions with absorption maxima at 586 nm for mono-styryl groups and at 672 nm for di-styryl groups. The introduction of the styryl moieties results in a large bathochromic shift and a significant decrease in the HOMO–LUMO energy-gaps. Efficient energy transfer in a tri-chromophoric dyad containing BODIPYs and corrole based on a truxene platform

A star-shaped molecule was designed and synthesized based on a known central truxene platform. Two BODIPY derivatives and one corrole macrocycle were introduced and connected to the 2, 7 and 12-positions of the truxene unit by Suzuki coupling. The dyad was fully characterized by UV-vis absorption, proton nuclear magnetic resonance, mass spectrometry. The direction of energy transfer upon electronic excitation was explored, and the star-shaped molecule system exhibits a highly efficient photoinduced energy transfer process from the excited BODIPY part to the corrole unit.

Synthesis of flexible nanotweezers with various metals and their application in carbon nanotube extraction

Bisporphyrin-based flexible nanotweezers with various metals were synthesized and applied to the extraction of single-walled carbon nanotubes. Homo- and hetero-metallic bisporphyrins containing Co2+ were found to afford higher SWNT-extraction ability, while no or a little amount of SWNTs were extracted by bisporphyrins with other metals.

Applying polygenic risk scoring for psychiatric disorders to a large family with bipolar disorder and major depressive disorder

Psychiatric disorders are thought to have a complex genetic pathology consisting of interplay of common and rare variation. Traditionally, pedigrees are used to shed light on the latter only, while here we discuss the application of polygenic risk scores to also highlight patterns of common genetic risk. We analyze polygenic risk scores for psychiatric disorders in a large pedigree (n ~ 260) in which 30% of family members suffer from major depressive disorder or bipolar disorder. AbstractHumans vary substantially in their willingness to take risks. In a combined sample of over one million individuals, we conducted genome-wide association studies (GWAS) of general risk tolerance, adventurousness, and risky behaviors in the driving, drinking, smoking, and sexual domains. We identified 611 approximately independent genetic loci associated with at least one of our phenotypes, including 124 with general risk tolerance.
