This comparative study looks at if the graduates from the more selective departments in the United Kingdom and France have better employment prospects than those from less selective ones. The departmental selectivity is indicated by the A-Level points score of the First Degree students in the United Kingdom and in France by the proportion of Maîtrise and DEA/DESS graduates who were in advance age wise at the Baccalauréat. Logit models were tested using two employment indicators (the probability of being unemployed and the probability of occupying a high-grade occupation), for each of the three subject group (Social Sciences, Languages and Science). For each employment indicator and subject group, logit models were tested with first only the selectivity variables and then with individual characteristics of the graduates added.
