description

This paper analyzes the institutional contribution of institutions to the scientific production in the area of Physical Activity and Sport Sciences through the affiliation that appears in the articles of 16 Spanish journals between 1999 and 2005. The most productive institutions and the most active authors are identified, as well as the area of origin and participating institutional sectors. Institutional plurality for each journal is also studied by means of a quotient between the number of authors and institutions. The 1786 papers analyzed engage 2280 institutions. The most productive Autonomous Communities are Andalucia (14.61% of articles), Cataluna (14.11%), and Madrid (10.97%), while foreign institutions are present in 12.77% of articles. Universities are the most productive institutional sector since they appear in 87.29% of articles, and educational centres are the second most productive sector (10.86%). The University of Granada (8.51%) and the University of Leon are the most productive Spanish universities (5.60%) in the journals sampled. ‘RICYDE’, ‘Revista Espanola de Educacion Fisica y Deportes’, and ‘Tandem’ have the highest institutional plurality; although fewer articles are obtained from the first two due to their recent creation. On the other hand, ‘Motricidad’, ‘Revista de Entrenamiento Deportivo’ and ‘Kronos’ are the journals in which the lowest institutional plurality is observed.
