Educational legislation is obliged to ensure the curriculum is adapted to enable the full development of the necessary basic skills. Teachers have to differentiate pupils’ curricula according to their cognitive, cultural and social constraints, so that each individual can develop into a socially competent citizen. This article describes how musical experience is affordable, effective and motivating for pupils included classed as requiring “attention to diversity,” and how it can contribute to this group’s acquisition of social and civic competences. In attention to diversity, music in has a vital role in primary schools, boosting self-esteem, independence, initiative, and contributing to the development of essential social and civic skills considered essential for sociocultural development.
