Abstract: In June 1971, the Spanish Communist Party held a big rally in the outskirts of Paris. It aimed at introducing its leaders to a considerable mass of militants, sympathisers or simply anti-Francoist population living then in Europe. The two leaders who addressed this multitude were Dolores Ibarruri (known as Pasionaria ) and Santiago Carrillo. Both had played a key role in the past, especially during the Spanish Civil War and both were planning to do so in the next future. The rally was profusely covered by press and photography; what’s more, a film was shot and edited by a Catalonian film crew along with the French revolutionary association Dynadia . This text analyses the different dimensions at stake in the rally, from the Party tactics perspective, as well as in relation to the Spanish Dictatorship. More specifically it takes into account what might be called transference of charisma from a living myth of Communism, Pasionaria , to the bureaucratic leader, Carrillo. Key Words : Spanish Transition to Democracy, History of the Spanish Communist Party, Charisma and Political Leaders, Political Cinema, Cinema and History.
