«Ad serviendum in cantari di musica et sunari di tasto»: contesti e modalità di formazione musicale a Palermo in età moderna

Il saggio discute alcune delle modalità di formazione musicale diffuse a Palermo nel periodo del viceregno spagnolo, dai primi anni del Cinquecento sino alla prima metà del Settecento. Considerando l'arco temporale, si propone una panoramica generale delle occasioni, dei contesti e dei luoghi nei quali a Palermo si potevano apprendere nozioni di natura musicale. Infatti, anche in seguito alla fondazione nel 1617 del Conservatorio per i “figlioli dispersi”, dove circa un secolo dopo veniva introdotto ufficialmente l’insegnamento della musica, molti altri sistemi continuarono a esercitare la loro attività di formazione, conservando un’innegabile vitalità. È a queste realtà che si rivolgerà la mia attenzione, riservando ad alcune di esse un interesse più specifico, come ad esempio al collegio gesuiti che stimolò la promozione di eventi musicali di vario tipo. This essay discusses some methods of musical training that were widespread in Palermo in the period of the Spanish viceroyalty, from the early sixteenth century to the first half of the eighteenth century. Considering the time frame, I intend to propose a general overview of the occasions, contexts, and places in which musical notions could be learned. In fact, even following the establishment in 1617 of the Conservatory for the "figlioli dispersi", where about a century later music teaching was officially introduced, many other systems continued to exercise their training activity, maintaining an undeniable vitality. Therefore, I will focus on these systems, devoting particular attention to some of them, such as to the Jesuit college, which promoted various and important musical events.
