description

Abstract The serum concentrations of TPA were determined in 67 patients with primary breast cancer, in 70 patients with metastasizing breast carcinoma and in 20 patients with ovarian cancer of stages III and IV (FIGO). Elevated TPA levels (>85 U/L) were found in 54% of patients with primary breast cancer, in 81% of the cases with disseminated disease and in 86% of patients with an ovarian carcinoma stage III. Preoperative TPA values in patients with primary mammary cancer were found to correlate well with tumor size and axillary lymph node involvement. Perioperative course controls in 10 patients exhibited an increase of TPA serum levels. The observation of the patients with metastasizing breast and ovarian carcinoma under systemic antineoplastic treatment showed a good correlation of TPA concentration to the clinical course.
