El Sistema Arxivístic Valencià (SAV).

2018

The configuration of the autonomous archive systems in Spain has been a slow, unequal, and still unfinished process. In this text examines the historical evolution that gave rise to the creation of these systems and, especially, the formation of the current Valencian archival system, as a set …

Socially Responsible Investing and Public Pension Fund Performance in Latvia

2018

Currently Latvia runs a three-pillar pension system. Despite positive dynamics of change of net assets of pension schemes, investments into pension programs are not regarded as financial products that could be popular amongst the population of Latvia. This problem is one of the key social economic issues in society and therefore its solution, which should be developed with consideration of ethical principles of investment, is socially important, which is why it should be addressed by the state. The aim of this research is to consider social and economic aspects of activities of the 2nd pillar pension fund in Latvia and to identify the attitude of Latvian residents to investments into pensio…

Death and Culture

2018

Taking cues from the surging popularity of thana-tourism, this paper argues that its prevalence echoes the end days of capitalism. The predominant forms of tourism in a society reflect the ethos of that society. What we once called ‘mass tourism' reflected the spirit of classical capitalism; later, ecotourism and various other alternative forms of tourism reflected a critical turn in capitalism, often called the ‘sympathetic capitalism'. These were incremental alternations, however. Thana-tourism is a qualitatively discontinuous form of tourism and its surge should thus correspond with a similarly discontinuous, radical, shift in capitalism. The authors present scholarly perspectives to bri…

Projectification in Western economies: A comparative study of Germany, Norway and Iceland

2018

Abstract Projectification has become a buzzword. Although repeated claims of an increasing projectification were often supported by illustrative, case-based evidence, a systematic and complete measurement of projectification of an entire economy - including all sectors and project types - is still missing. A more precise and reliable measurement of the degree of projectification can be helpful for underlying the importance of project management both for research and practice. This paper presents the results of a comparative study in three Western economies: Germany, Norway, and Iceland. Projectification was measured as the share of project work on total work. This allows for a systematic co…

2018

EnglishIrony is among the discursive techniques employed by the essayist and columnist Joan Fuster i Ortells (1922-1992). This register, which the writer used in diferent ways, is also present in his journalistic production. This journalistic body of work has a significnat place within “the journalism of ideas” in Catalan and Spanish of the second half of the 20th century. Fuster’s uses of this resource and its the different ways and degrees to which he employed it were conditioned by aspects such as the intended audience, the newspaper where a given article or column was to be published; the issue or issues being addressed, the historical and thematic context of the text and, of course, ev…

Economic Impact of 'Third-Wave' Cognitive Behavioral Therapies:A Systematic Review and Quality Assessment of Economic Evaluations in Randomized Contr…

2018

The term third-wave cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) encompasses new forms of CBT that both extend and innovate within CBT. Most third-wave therapies have been subject to randomized controlled trials (RCTs) focused on clinical effectiveness; however, the number and quality of economic evaluations in these RCTs has been unknown and may be few. Evidence about efficiency of these therapies may help support decisions on efficient allocation of resources in health policies. The main aim of this study was to systematically review the economic impact of third-wave therapies in the treatment of patients with physical or mental conditions. We conducted a systematic literature search in PubMed, Psy…

Altered gastrointestinal motility in an animal model of Lesch-Nyhan disease.

2018

Mutations in the HGPRT1 gene, which encodes hypoxanthine-guanine phosphoribosyltransferase (HGprt), housekeeping enzyme responsible for recycling purines, lead to Lesch-Nyhan disease (LND). Clinical expression of LND indicates that HGprt deficiency has adverse effects on gastrointestinal motility. Therefore, we aimed to evaluate intestinal motility in HGprt knockout mice (HGprt(−)). Spontaneous and neurally evoked mechanical activity was recorded in vitro as changes in isometric tension in circular muscle strips of distal colon. HGprt(−) tissues showed a lower in amplitude spontaneous activity and atropine-sensitivity neural contraction compared to control mice. The responses to carbachol a…

Aerobic granular sludge reactor treating anaerobically pretreated brewery wastewater at different loading rates

2018

Small and medium breweries discharging to municipal sewers without treatment generate significant loads with typical concentrations reported by Valta et al. (2014) as 2-6 g COD L-1, 25-80 mg TN L-1, 10-50 mg TP L-1, with pH between 4.5 and 12. Treatment of the high-strength wastewater requires specialized low footprint processes, such as aerobic granular sludge (AGS), capable of high-rate degradation, as well as simultaneous nitrogen and phosphorous removal (Wang et al., 2007). The objective of this study was to evaluate the start-up period of AGS receiving brewery wastewater after initial anaerobic pretreatment.

Risk Management for Sovereign Financing within a Debt Sustainability Framework

2018

The mix of instruments used to finance a sovereign is a key determinant of debt sustainability through its effect on funding costs and risks. We extend standard debt sustainability analysis to incorporate debt-financing decisions in the presence of macroeconomic, financial, and fiscal risks. We optimize the maturity of debt instruments to trade off borrowing costs with refinancing risk. Risk is quantified with a coherent measure of tail risk of financing needs, conditional Flow-at-Risk. A constraint on the pace of reduction of debt stocks is also imposed, and we model the effect of debt stocks on the yield curve through endogenous risk and term premia. On a simulated economy, we show that t…

Genomic characterization of the Braque Français type Pyrénées dog and relationship with other breeds

2018

The evaluation of genetic variability is a useful research tool for the correct management of selection and conservation strategies in dog breeds. In addition to pedigree genealogies, genomic data allow a deeper knowledge of the variability and genetic structure of populations. To date, many dog breeds, such as small regional breeds, still remain uncharacterized. Braque Français type Pyrénées (BRA) is a dog breed originating from a very old type of gun-dog used for pointing the location of game birds to hunters. Despite the ancient background, the knowledge about levels of genetic diversity, degree of inbreeding and population structure is scarce. This may raise concerns on the possibility …

Forms of Animality: The Dog

2018

Animals are not the object of zoosemiotics as discussed here, neither is their language nor any other system of signs that affects them directly as living creatures that communicate, but the forms of animality, forms through which the concept of animal itself is socially constructed and transformed over time. Now, if there is one place in which such forms are plain to see, it is in those areas that focus on their nutrition. Looking at feeding animals as a semiotic activity, this paper wants to focus on what I call a nutritional pact, an implicit agreement that binds humans and animals, and that is being continuously negotiated by cultures. A relationship that advertising deeply contributes …

First transmission of electrons and ions through the KATRIN beamline

2018

The Karlsruhe Tritium Neutrino (KATRIN) experiment is a large-scale effort to probe the absolute neutrino mass scale with a sensitivity of 0.2 eV (90% confidence level), via a precise measurement of the endpoint spectrum of tritium β-decay. This work documents several KATRIN commissioning milestones: the complete assembly of the experimental beamline, the successful transmission of electrons from three sources through the beamline to the primary detector, and tests of ion transport and retention. In the First Light commissioning campaign of autumn 2016, photoelectrons were generated at the rear wall and ions were created by a dedicated ion source attached to the rear section; in July 2017, …

Dispersion Interactions between Neutral Atoms and the Quantum Electrodynamical Vacuum

2018

Dispersion interactions are long-range interactions between neutral ground-state atoms or molecules, or polarizable bodies in general, due to their common interaction with the quantum electromagnetic field. They arise from the exchange of virtual photons between the atoms, and, in the case of three or more atoms, are not additive. In this review, after having introduced the relevant coupling schemes and effective Hamiltonians, as well as properties of the vacuum fluctuations, we~outline the main properties of dispersion interactions, both in the nonretarded (van der Waals) and retarded (Casimir--Polder) regime. We then discuss their deep relation with the existence of the vacuum fluctuation…

Prawa Versus obowiązki tymczasowo aresztowanych w Polsce

2018

Oi aikoja, oi tapoja : muistitieto Opettajankoulutus 2020 -selvitystyöstä

2018

Tässä tutkimuksessa tutkittiin Opettajankoulutus 2020 -selvitystyön työryhmän jäsenten ajatuksia opettajankoulutuksen kehittämisestä. Menetelmänä hyödynnettiin muistitietotutkimusta, joka pyrki selvittämään, mitä haastateltavat halusivat tehdä, mitä uskoivat tekevänsä ja mitä arvioivat jälkikäteen tehneensä opettajankoulutuksen kehittämisen eteen. Näin pyrimme selvittämään, millaista opettajankoulutuksen kehittämistyö oli 2000-luvun alussa, mitkä tekijät siihen vaikuttivat ja tarkentamaan kuvaa opettajankoulutuksen nykytilasta. Tutkimuksemme osoittaa, että kehittämistyötä on ohjannut periaate akateemisesta opettajankoulutuksesta. Opettajankoulutus 2020 -selvitystyö ei ole syntynyt tyhjästä,…

Normality

2018

The chapter explicates the central resources that classical Husserlian phenomenology and its contemporary elaborations offer for the study of psychic disorders. We shall first discuss the phenomenological principles that enable analysis of the conditions and limits of experiencing and sense-constitution. We shall then clarify the concepts that phenomenologists have developed for the discussion of the normality and abnormality of experiencing—optimality and concordance—while also paying heed to the types of phenomena that classical and contemporary phenomenologists have tackled while developing their methods. In this vein, we will emphasize methodological factors that separate phenomenologic…

Enhancing news recommendation using a personalized content manager

2018

The surge in the amount of information available on the internet and the number of users utilizing such information poses new challenges for information systems. This rapid growth in information is palpable in the news provisioning domain where users spend time deciding which of the many channels provides news in a most reliable and useful fashion. In the last few years, News aggregation platforms are now present which reduces the time users spends in consuming news from multiple sources. But news provisioning is more than just aggregating and presenting news. It must also include taking into cognizance users’ needs. Therefore, recommendation algorithms are developed by information systems …
