Cyber Security Strategy Implementation Architecture in a Value System

2018

In this chapter, we introduce an approach toward enhancing the quality of strategy implementation. As a framework, we use cybersecurity strategy implementation planning and execution. Justification for this work is the observed need to be able to perform strategy readjustment processes quickly and in an agile way, when needed. This requires processes and practices that are simple enough and executable with small resources in a relatively short timeframe. The problem statement can be formulated as follows: “We need to determine an utterly simplified, noncomplicated model to help us to tackle the complex problem of implementing a cybersecurity strategy of adequate efficiency in a changing ope…

Meaningless Life: The Role of Clinical Phenomenology in Understanding the “Being in the World” of Psychiatric Patients

2018

The paper focuses on the use of phenomenological psychiatry in researching the life-world of psychiatric patients. Although the subjective experiences of patients can be fundamental for understanding the inner life crisis and revealing a meaning that could make these experiences understandable, they are often undervalued in clinical psychiatry for their not being considered useful for diagnosis.

On Using “Stochastic Learning on the Line” to Design Novel Distance Estimation Methods

2018

In this paper, we consider the problem of Distance Estimation (DE) when the inputs are the x and y coordinates of the points under consideration. The aim of the problem is to yield an accurate value for the real (road) distance between the points specified by the latter coordinates. This problem has, typically, been tackled by utilizing parametric functions called Distance Estimation Functions (DEFs). The parameters are learned from the training data (i.e., the true road distances) between a subset of the points under consideration. We propose to use Learning Automata (LA)-based strategies to solve the problem. In particular, we resort to the Adaptive Tertiary Search (ATS) strategy, propose…

Ecologies of Practice

2018

Through current research evidence, anecdotal experiences portrayed in the research to praxis sections and country-specific images of practice, we hope the chapters of this book have highlighted the tremendous potential and power of the adolescent developmental period. Education systems, schools and teachers all play important roles in how the schooling experience of adolescents unfolds. Since such a significant portion of their sense of self develops through their interactions and explorations with people and ideas at school, we can no longer leave to chance what happens during the middle years of learning. Bringing the science and research of adolescence and adolescent schooling to life th…

A framework for data-driven adaptive GUI generation based on DICOM

2018

Computer applications for diagnostic medical imaging provide generally a wide range of tools to support physicians in their daily diagnosis activities. Unfortunately, some functionalities are specialized for specific diseases or imaging modalities, while other ones are useless for the images under investigation. Nevertheless, the corresponding Graphical User Interface (GUI) widgets are still present on the screen reducing the image visualization area. As a consequence, the physician may be affected by cognitive overload and visual stress causing a degradation of performances, mainly due to unuseful widgets. In clinical environments, a GUI must represent a sequence of steps for image investi…

Relative Peripheral Myopia Induced by Fractal Contact Lenses

2018

[EN] Purpose: To assess the peripheral refraction induced by Fractal Contact Lenses (FCLs) in myopic eyes by means of a two-dimensional Relative Peripheral Refractive Error (RPRE) map. Materials and Methods: This study involved 26 myopic subjects ranging from -0.50 D to -7.00 D. FCLs prototypes were custom-manufactured and characterized. Corneal topographies were taken in order to assess correlations between corneal asphericity and lens decentration. Two-dimensional RPREs were measured with an open-field autorefractor at 67 points, covering the central 60 x 30 degrees of the visual field. The bidimensional RPRE vector components: M, J(0) and J(45) of the difference between the values obtain…

Learning spatio-temporal behavioural sequences

2018

Living beings are able to adapt their behaviour repertoire to environmental constraints. Among the capabilities needed for such improvement, the ability to store and retrieve temporal sequences is of particular importance. This chapter focuses on the description of an architecture based on spiking neurons, able to learn and autonomously generate a sequence of generic objects or events. The neural architecture is inspired by the insect mushroom bodies already taken into account in the previous chapters as a crucial centre for multimodal sensory integration and behaviour modulation in insects. Sequence learning is only one among a variety of functionalities that coexist within the insect brai…

Enhancing improvisational music therapy through the addition of resonance frequency breathing : Common findings of three single-case experimental stu…

2018

One core characteristic of active music therapy is the facilitation of emotional expression through the creation of music improvisations. In an attempt to further develop this approach, we created an enhanced form of integrative improvisational music therapy by including 10 minutes of resonance frequency breathing (RFB) at the beginning of the sessions. RFB is a type of slowbreathing known for its ability to reduce stress and support emotional regulation. This paper summarizes the common findings of three single-case experimental studies and introduces a provisional model to explain the observed effects of RFB. During the breathing itself, all three clients (two of them healthy and one diag…

Systematic Modulation of the Supramolecular Gelation Properties of Bile Acid Alkyl Amides

2018

The self-assembly properties of nine low-molecular-weight gelators (LMWGs) based on bile acid alkyl amides were studied in detail. Based on the results, the number of hydroxyl groups attached to the steroidal backbone plays a major role in the gelation, although the nature of the aliphatic side chain also modulates the gelation abilities. Of the 50 gel systems studied, 35 are based on lithocholic acid and 15 on cholic acid derivatives. The deoxycholic acid derivatives did not form any gels. The gelation occurred primarily in aromatic solvents and the gels manifested typical fibrous or spherical morphologies. The 13C cross-polarized magic angle spinning (CPMAS) NMR spectra measured on the cr…

Cohesive delamination and frictional contact on joining surface via XFEM

2018

In the present paper, the complex mechanical behaviour of the surfaces joining two different bodies is analysed by a cohesive-frictional interface constitutive model. The kinematical behaviour is characterized by the presence of discontinuous displacement fields, that take place at the internal connecting surfaces, both in the fully cohesive phase and in the delamination one. Generally, in order to catch discontinuous displacement fields, internal connecting surfaces (adhesive layers) are modelled by means of interface elements, which connect, node by node, the meshes of the joined bodies, requiring the mesh to be conforming to the geometry of the single bodies and to the relevant connectin…

La vanité et le tragique existentiel dans l’œuvre durassienne

2018

Duras’s work is a deep reflection on the emptiness of the human condition. In her works, a man realizes his/her inability to live in a senseless, unfriendly world in which all efforts to change the course of events or improve fate turn out to be futile. Therefore they express senselessness of any activity or commitment of the individual as confronted with the cruelty of fate. This state of affairs results from the inseparable connection between life and death inscribed in human nature. The works by Duras reflect the end of the world so per-ceived and the absurd manifestations of the inevitable disaster. In this dramatic way, the author shows the tragedy of human existence associated, in par…

2018

Background The Global Burden of Diseases, Injuries, and Risk Factors Study (GBD) 2017 comparative risk assessment (CRA) is a comprehensive approach to risk factor quantification that offers a useful tool for synthesising evidence on risks and risk–outcome associations. With each annual GBD study, we update the GBD CRA to incorporate improved methods, new risks and risk–outcome pairs, and new data on risk exposure levels and risk– outcome associations. Methods We used the CRA framework developed for previous iterations of GBD to estimate levels and trends in exposure, attributable deaths, and attributable disability-adjusted life-years (DALYs), by age group, sex, year, and location for 84 be…

Level structure above the 17+ isomeric state in 152 69 Tm83

2018

Excited states above the 17+ isomeric state in the proton-rich nucleus 152Tm were established by employing the recoil-isomer tagging technique. Data were collected using the JUROGAM gamma-ray array and the GREAT spectrometer together with the recoil ion transport unit (RITU) gas-filled recoil separator and analyzed to identify the prompt and delayed γ decays from the levels in 152Tm. Shell-model calculations, either in a large valence space or in a reduced model space with five protons in the π0h11/2 orbital and one neutron in the ν1f7/2 orbital, agree with the observed energies of the yrast levels up to angular momentum J = 21. Sukupolvenvaihdokseen varautuminen pienissä perheyrityksissä

2018

Sukupolvenvaihdos on kriittinen vaihe yrityksen elinkaaressa. Tutkittavana asiana on lisäksi sukupolvenvaihdokseen varautuminen taloudellisesta näkökulmasta. Tuloksena huomattiin, että sukupolvenvaihdokseen varaudu…
