Analytical solution of kinematic wave time of concentration for overland flow under green-ampt infiltration
2015
In this paper the well-known kinematic wave equation for computing the time of concentration for impervious surfaces has been extended to the case of pervious hillslopes, accounting for infiltration. An analytical solution for the time of concentration for overland flow on a rectangular plane surface is derived using the kinematic wave equation under the Green-Ampt infiltration. The relative time of concentration is defined as the ratio between the time of concentration of an infiltrating plane and the soil sorptivity time scale, depending on the normalized rainfall intensity and a parameter synthesizing the soil and hillslope characteristics. It is shown that for a more complex case (corre…
Cuestiones varias en torno a la determinación de la filiación por doble paternidad
2018
The article 7.3 of the law 14/2006, of May 26 on technologies of human assisted reproduction establishes the possibility of determining legally the double maternity of married women and not separated legally or of fact, when the not biological mother consents that filiation decides to his favor the respect of the born son of his spouse. In the suppositions not regulated in the mentioned rule the Supreme Court in relation with equal women?s homosexuality in judgment of December 5, 2013 and January 15, 2014 applies the civil code and allows to determine judicially the maternity by means of the exercise of an action of claim for possession of status foreseen in the article 131. In the present …
Why reg. (eu) no. 1103/2016 and 1104/2016 impact on the european citizens daily life?
2021
Why families do need the tools and instruments implemented by PSEFS Project? Why this is not an issue for lawyers, judges and University professors only. The answer to this question is that Reg. (EU) no. 1103/2016 and no. 1104/2016 impact on the European citizens daily life. We follow the problems of a young couple in order to have a better understanding and an evidence of this statement.
Learning from the past in the COVID-19 era: rediscovery of quarantine, previous pandemics, origin of hospitals and national healthcare systems, and e…
2020
Abstract After the dramatic coronavirus outbreak at the end of 2019 in Wuhan, Hubei province, China, on 11 March 2020, a pandemic was declared by the WHO. Most countries worldwide imposed a quarantine or lockdown to their citizens, in an attempt to prevent uncontrolled infection from spreading. Historically, quarantine is the 40-day period of forced isolation to prevent the spread of an infectious disease. In this educational paper, a historical overview from the sacred temples of ancient Greece—the cradle of medicine—to modern hospitals, along with the conceive of healthcare systems, is provided. A few foods for thought as to the conflict between ethics in medicine and shortage of personne…
Impact of smoking on COVID-19 outcomes: a HOPE Registry subanalysis
2021
BackgroundSmoking has been associated with poorer outcomes in relation to COVID-19. Smokers have higher risk of mortality and have a more severe clinical course. There is paucity of data available on this issue, and a definitive link between smoking and COVID-19 prognosis has yet to be established.MethodsWe included 5224 patients with COVID-19 with an available smoking history in a multicentre international registry Health Outcome Predictive Evaluation for COVID-19 (NCT04334291). Patients were included following an in-hospital admission with a COVID-19 diagnosis. We analysed the outcomes of patients with a current or prior history of smoking compared with the non-smoking group. The primary …
Vitamin D deficiency as one of the factors affecting idiopathic scoliosis progression in adolescents aged 10 to 16

Maģistra darbs “D vitamīna nepietiekamība kā viens no Idiopātiskās skoliozes progresēšanas faktoriem bērniem 10-16 gadu vecumā “, Tatjana Rakļinska. Darba vadītājs sertificēts mugurkaulāja ķirurgs un traumatologs ortopēds Dr. Jānis Osītis, 41 lpp., 19 attēli., 9 tabulas, 1 pielikums, 28 literatūras avoti. Latviešu valodā. Pusaudžu idiopātiskā skolioze (AIS) ir trīs dimensiju mugurkaula deformācija . Lai gan AIS var progresēt augšanas laikā un radīt virsmas deformāciju, parasti tā nav simptomātiska. Tomēr pieaugušo vecumā, ja galīgais mugurkaula izliekums pārsniedz noteiktu kritisko slieksni, palielinās veselības problēmu un izliekuma progresēšanas risks. Diemžēl arī Covid-19 pandēmija ir ie…
Relative proton and γ widths of astrophysically important states in 30S studied in the β-delayed decay of 31Ar
2013
Resonances just above the proton threshold in 30S affect the 29P(p,gamma)30S reaction under astrophysical conditions. The (p,gamma)-reaction rate is currently determined indirectly and depends on the properties of the relevant resonances. We present here a method for finding the ratio between the proton and gamma partial widths of resonances in 30S. The widths are determined from the beta-2p and beta-p-gamma decay of 31Ar, which is produced at the ISOLDE facility at the European research organization CERN. Experimental limits on the ratio between the proton and gamma partial widths for astrophysical relevant levels in 30S have been found for the first time. A level at 4688(5) keV is identif…
The influence of serotonin- and other genes on impulsive behavioral aggression and cognitive impulsivity in children with attention-deficit/hyperacti…
2008
Contains fulltext : 70708.pdf (Publisher’s version ) (Open Access) ABSTRACT: BACKGROUND: Low serotonergic (5-HT) activity correlates with increased impulsive-aggressive behavior, while the opposite association may apply to cognitive impulsiveness. Both types of impulsivity are associated with attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), and genes of functional significance for the 5-HT system are implicated in this disorder. Here we demonstrate the separation of aggressive and cognitive components of impulsivity from symptom ratings and test their association with 5-HT and functionally related genes using a family-based association test (FBAT-PC). METHODS: Our sample consisted of 1180 o…
Space-filling vs. Luzin's condition (N)
2013
Let us assume that we are given two metric spaces, where the Hausdorff dimension of the first space is strictly smaller than the one of the second space. Suppose further that the first space has sigma-finite measure with respect to the Hausdorff measure of the corresponding dimension. We show for quite general metric spaces that for any measurable surjection from the first onto the second space, there is a set of measure zero that is mapped to a set of positive measure (both measures are the Hausdorff measures corresponding to the Hausdorff dimension of the first space). We also study more general situations where the measures on the two metric spaces are not necessarily the same and not ne…
$\Omega$-symmetric measures and related singular integrals
2019
Let $\mathbb{S} \subset \mathbb{C}$ be the circle in the plane, and let $\Omega: \mathbb{S} \to \mathbb{S}$ be an odd bi-Lipschitz map with constant $1+\delta_\Omega$, where $\delta_\Omega>0$ is small. Assume also that $\Omega$ is twice continuously differentiable. Motivated by a question raised by Mattila and Preiss in [MP95], we prove the following: if a Radon measure $\mu$ has positive lower density and finte upper density almost everywhere, and the limit $$ \lim_{\epsilon \downarrow 0} \int_{\mathbb{C} \setminus B(x,\epsilon)} \frac{\Omega\left((x-y)/|x-y|\right)}{|x-y|} \, d\mu(y) $$ exists $\mu$-almost everywhere, then $\mu$ is $1$-rectifiable. To achieve this, we prove first that if …
