Three-year clinical performance of two indirect composite inlays compared to direct composite restorations

Objective: Despite the incremental build-up of resin composite restorations, their polymerization shrinkage during curing presents a serious problem. Indirect composite resin systems represent an alternative in overcoming some of the deficiencies of direct composite restorations. Brain damage in hanging: A new CT finding

We report a 23-year-old man who attempted suicide by hanging. There have been few reports of involvement of the brain parenchyma shown on CT, all showing ischaemic lesions. This is the first report of multifocal intracerebral haematomas due to hanging seen on CT.

OBJECTIVE In this retrospective investigation of patient pathways to psycho-oncological treatment (POT), we compared the number of POT referrals before and after implementation of electronic screening for POT needs and investigated psychosocial predictors for POT wish at a nuclear medicine department. Running in highly cushioned shoes increases leg stiffness and amplifies impact loading

AbstractRunning shoe cushioning has become a standard method for managing impact loading and consequent injuries due to running. However, despite decades of shoe technology developments and the fact that shoes have become increasingly cushioned, aimed to ease the impact on runners’ legs, running injuries have not decreased. To better understand the shoe cushioning paradox, we examined impact loading and the spring-like mechanics of running in a conventional control running shoe and a highly cushioned maximalist shoe at two training speeds, 10 and 14.5 km/h. Morphea after silicone gel breast implantation for cosmetic reasons in an HLA-B8,DR3-positive woman

We describe an HLA-B8, DR3-positive patient with localized morphea after silicone gel breast implantation for cosmetic reasons. We believe that this case suggests that a genetic background, i.e. HLA-B8, DR3 haplotype, is involved in the autoimmune response to silicone.

Formation of supramolecular aggregates by hydrogen bonding based on bispyrimidine and bisbarbituric acid

Hydrogen bonds between bispyrimidine and bisbarbituric acid in equal molar ratio can lead to the formation of supramolecular aggregates. This is established by TEM, IR and DSC measurements. Additionally, WAXS pattern showed that the aggregate is of laminar structure. Both the hydrolysis of this system and termination of the aggregate's growth were studied.

Effect of Stiffness on the Micellization Behavior of Model H4T4 Surfactant Chains

The micellization behavior of a series of model surfactants, all with four head and tail groups (H4T4) but with different degrees of chain stiffness, was studied using grand canonical Monte Carlo simulations on a cubic lattice. The critical micelle concentration, micellar size, and thermodynamics of micellization were examined. In all cases investigated, the critical micelle concentration was found to increase with increasing temperature as observed for nonionic surfactants in apolar or slightly polar solvents. RGD-mimic polyamidoamine-montmorillonite composites with tunable stiffness as scaffolds for bone tissue-engineering applications

This paper reports on the development of montmorillonite (MMT)-reinforced hydrogels, based on a peptidomimetic polyamidoamine carrying guanidine pendants (AGMA1), as substrates for the osteo-induction of osteoblast precursor cells.
