Model-independent search for the decay B^{+}→l^{+}ν_{l}γ
2009
We present a search for the radiative leptonic decay B^+ → l^+ν_lγ, where l = e, μ, using a data sample of 465 × 10^6 BB(overbar) pairs collected by the BABAR experiment. In this analysis, we fully reconstruct the hadronic decay of one of the B mesons in Υ(4S) → B^+B^- decays, then search for evidence of B^+ → l^+ν_lγ in the rest of the event. We observe no significant evidence of signal decays and report model-independent branching fraction upper limits of B(B^+ → e^+ν_eγ) < 17 × 10^(-6), B(B^+ → μ^+ν_μγ) < 24 × 10^(-6), and B(B^+ → l^+ν_lγ) < 15.6 × 10^(-6) (l= e or μ), all at the 90% confidence level.

Fabrication of elastomeric scaffolds with curvilinear fibrous structures for heart valve leaflet engineering
2014
Native semi-lunar heart valves are composed of a dense fibrous network that generally follows a curvilinear path along the width of the leaflet. Recent models of engineered valve leaflets have predicted that such curvilinear fiber orientations would homogenize the strain field and reduce stress concentrations at the commissure. In the present work, a method was developed to reproduce this curvilinear fiber alignment in electrospun scaffolds by varying the geometry of the collecting mandrel. Elastomeric poly(ester urethane)urea was electrospun onto rotating conical mandrels of varying angles to produce fibrous scaffolds where the angle of fiber alignment varied linearly over scaffold length.…
Novel artemisinin derivatives with potential usefulness against liver/colon cancer and viral hepatitis.
2013
Antitumor and antiviral properties of the antimalaria drug artemisinin from Artemisia annua have been reported. Novel artemisinin derivatives (AD1-AD8) have been synthesized and evaluated using in vitro models of liver/colon cancer and viral hepatitis B and C. Cell viability assays after treating human cell lines from hepatoblastoma (HepG2), hepatocarcinoma (SK-HEP-1), and colon adenocarcinoma (LS174T) with AD1-AD8 for a short (6h) and long (72h) period revealed that AD5 combined low acute toxicity together with high antiproliferative effect (IC50=1-5μM). Since iron-mediated activation of peroxide bond is involved in artemisinin antimalarial activity, the effect of iron(II)-glycine sulfate …
Measurement of Event Shape and Inclusive Distributions at $\sqrt{s} =$ 130 and 136 GeV
1997
Inclusive charged particle and event shape distributions are measured using 321 hadronic events collected with the DELPHI experiment at LEP at effective centre of mass energies of 130 to 136 GeV. These distributions are presented and compared to data at lower energies, in particular to the precise Z data. Fragmentation models describe the observed changes of the distributions well. The energy dependence of the means of the event shape variables can also be described using second order QCD plus power terms. A method independent of fragmentation model corrections is used to determine $\alpha_s$ from the energy dependence of the mean thrust and heavy jet mass. It is measured to be: % %\alpha_s…
In-situ annealing characterization of atomic-layer-deposited Al2O3 in N2, H2 and vacuum atmospheres
2019
Tarkista embargo, kun artikkeli julkaistu. Atomic-layer-deposited Al 2 O 3 films can be used for passivation, protective, and functional purposes in electronic devices. However, as-deposited, amorphous alumina is susceptible to chemical attack and corrosion during manufacturing and field-use. On the contrary, crystalline Al 2 O 3 is resistant against aggressive chemical treatments and corrosion. Here, high-temperature treatments in N 2 , H 2 , and vacuum were used to crystallize alumina which exhibited different crystalline phases. The annealing process was monitored continuously in situ by measuring the film temperature and surface reflectance to understand the crystallization kinetics. Ex…
Presentation of the DSIP method for study of recrystallization process in subsurface zone induced by sandblasting
2011
In the paper we demonstrate the application of the positron annihilation experimental technique based on the scan of the positron implantation profile for observation of the recrystallization process in the subsurface zone (SZ). The SZ was created in the copper sample whose surface was exposed to a sandblasting treatment and then annealed at different temperatures. Application of 68Ge/68Ga positron source allows us to scan the depth of c.a. 150 μm. It was found that recrystallization goes faster close to the surface than in deeper regions. The complete rebuilding of the microstructure takes place at temperature of 600 °C. Some changes in the defect structure begin at temperature of 300 °C.
Determination of defect content and defect profile in semiconductor heterostructures
2011
In this article we present an overview of the technique to obtain the defects depth profile and width of a deposited layer and multilayer based on positron annihilation spectroscopy. In particular we apply the method to ZnO and ZnO/ZnCdO layers deposited on sapphire substrates. After introducing some terminology we first calculate the trend that the W/S parameters of the Doppler broadening measurements must follow, both in a qualitative and quantitative way. From this point we extend the results to calculate the width and defect profiles in deposited layer samples.
Improvement of the nitrogen uptake induced by Ti(IV) supply in nitrogen stressed pepper crops
1996
The beneficial effect of titanium on plant metabolism can result in a more profitable use of fertilizers on many crops. An experiment was performed in a greenhouse with Capsicum annuum L. cv. Bunejo plants cultivated under different levels of nitrogen fertilization: 100% N — 250 N fertilizer units/ha (NFU); 75% N - 187.5 NFU; 50% N - 125 NFU; 25% N - 62.5 NFU. A third of the plants in each N support remained Ti-untreated and were used as a reference. Each of the other thirds received one and two 2 mg Ti/l, pH 6, leaf spray treatments respectively (35 ml/plant). Biomass production of the Ti-untreated references was only affected by N-supplies of 25%. Ti leaf spray treatments induced a biomas…
Growth and Antagonism of Trichoderma spp. and Conifer Pathogen Heterobasidion annosum</i&a…
2012
Variations in the radial growth rate of 24 isolates belonging to ten species of Trichoderma, three isolates of conifer pathogen Heterobasidion annosum s.s. and four isolates of H. parviporum were evaluated by incubation on a solid malt extract medium at a temperature of 4℃, 15℃ and 21℃. Trichoderma antagonism against Heterobasidion was investigated in dual culture in vitro. The slowest rate of growth was referable to all seven strains of Heterobasidion spp. All Heterobasidion spp. strains were overgrown by 63% of Trichoderma spp. strains after two weeks at 21℃ and by 33% of strains at 15℃. 21% of Trichoderma strains did not grow and only four strains belonging to T. koningii, T. viride and …
