Hexose reabsorption in the kidney was investigated by microperfusion of proximal cortical rat nephrons with Ringer's solution containingD-glucose (2.5, 5.0 and 18.0 mM/l), 3-O-methylD-glucose (4.5 mM/l) orD-fructose (18.0 mM/l) at perfusion rates of 20 or 40×10−6 ml/min. Inulin was used as a reference for fluid reabsorption. 1. The effects of insulin on the rates of glucose disposal were studied in soleus muscles isolated from hyper- or hypothyroid rats. Treatment with triiodothyronine for 5 or 10 days decreased the sensitivity of glycogen synthesis but increased the sensitivity of lactate formation to insulin. The sensitivity of 3-O methylglucose to insulin was increased only after 10 days of treatment and was accompanied by an increase in the sensitivity of 2-deoxyglucose phosphorylation; however, 2-deoxyglucose and glucose 6-phosphate in response to insulin remained unaltered. Abstract Visible-light responsive bare and metal loaded (Pt, Ag, Rh, Pd) TiO 2 photocatalysts were prepared by using a simple ultrasound treatment. This method induced bulk oxygen deficiency resulting in a narrowing bandgap (from 3.18 to 3.04 eV) and in visible light absorption. Thermal Creation of Defects in GaTe

Photoluminescence spectra of as-grown and annealed GaTe single crystals in the 0.7–1.8 eV range have been analyzed at different temperatures. Annealing up to 200 °C produces an increase in the recombination intensity of an excitonic characteristic. The annealing at 400 °C generates an intense optically active recombination in the infrared region (0.76 eV). The thermal generation of defects is possible, owing to the low melting temperature of GaTe (800 °C).
