D-Glucose and fluid reabsorption in proximal surface tubule of the rat kidney

Hexose reabsorption in the kidney was investigated by microperfusion of proximal cortical rat nephrons with Ringer's solution containingD-glucose (2.5, 5.0 and 18.0 mM/l), 3-O-methylD-glucose (4.5 mM/l) orD-fructose (18.0 mM/l) at perfusion rates of 20 or 40×10−6 ml/min. Inulin was used as a reference for fluid reabsorption. 1. The fraction of fluid reabsorbed was independent of the glucose concentration but it decreased when the perfusion rate increased from 20–40×10−6 ml/min. 2. At 18.0 mM/l the % glucose reabsorption was equal to the % fluid reabsorption. Abstract —Both microalbuminuria (>0.290 nmol/min [20 μg/min]) and high sodium-lithium countertransport (SLC) in diabetic or hypertensive humans are predictive of overt nephropathy and more aggressive cardiovascular complications, perhaps induced by insulin resistance. To analyze the relationships between microalbuminuria, SLC, microalbuminuria, and insulin in essential hypertension, we studied 90 hypertensive white patients, 25 of whom had microalbuminuria and 32 of whom were healthy. The effects of insulin on transport and metabolism of glucose in skeletal muscle from hyperthyroid and hypothyroid rats.

The effects of insulin on the rates of glucose disposal were studied in soleus muscles isolated from hyper- or hypothyroid rats. Treatment with triiodothyronine for 5 or 10 days decreased the sensitivity of glycogen synthesis but increased the sensitivity of lactate formation to insulin. The sensitivity of 3-O methylglucose to insulin was increased only after 10 days of treatment and was accompanied by an increase in the sensitivity of 2-deoxyglucose phosphorylation; however, 2-deoxyglucose and glucose 6-phosphate in response to insulin remained unaltered. A facile and reproducible one-step pathway has been developed for preparing ordered arrays of mesoporous carbon nanostructures within the pores of anodized aluminium oxide (AAO) membranes, through the confined self-assembly of phenol/formaldehyde resol and amphiphilic copolymer templates. Photoactivity under visible light of metal loaded TiO2 catalysts prepared by low frequency ultrasound treatment

Abstract Visible-light responsive bare and metal loaded (Pt, Ag, Rh, Pd) TiO 2 photocatalysts were prepared by using a simple ultrasound treatment. This method induced bulk oxygen deficiency resulting in a narrowing bandgap (from 3.18 to 3.04 eV) and in visible light absorption. Thermal Creation of Defects in GaTe

2008

Photoluminescence spectra of as-grown and annealed GaTe single crystals in the 0.7–1.8 eV range have been analyzed at different temperatures. Annealing up to 200 °C produces an increase in the recombination intensity of an excitonic characteristic. The annealing at 400 °C generates an intense optically active recombination in the infrared region (0.76 eV). The thermal generation of defects is possible, owing to the low melting temperature of GaTe (800 °C).
