The aquatic ecosystems are dynamic environments often affected directly or indirectly by a myriad of anthropogenic contaminants that need to be properly identified. Abstract In-tube solid phase microextraction (IT-SPME) coupled on-line to capillary liquid chromatography with diode array detection provides a simple and fast analytical methodology for the simultaneous quantitation of caffeine and its three primary metabolites (theobromine, paraxanthine and theophylline) in micro samples of serum, saliva and urine matrices. To better understand wine aroma persistence, the nasal cavity of nine volunteers was monitored by Proton Transfer Reaction-Time of Flight-Mass Spectrometry (PTR-ToF-MS) after they rinsed their mouths with three rosé wines (one control and the same wine supplemented with two tannin extracts) during four minutes. Wines were aromatised with a mixture of five target aroma compounds. Results showed that wine aroma persistence was highly compound-dependent: while esters disappeared very fast, other compounds such as linalool remained in the oral cavity for longer times after wine expectoration. Abstract A procedure has been developed for the determination of third-generation synthetic cannabinoids in oral fluid samples by using a semi-automated microextraction by packed sorbent (MEPS) procedure and gas chromatography–mass spectrometry (GC–MS) determination. Five synthetic cannabinoids were employed as model compounds 5F-ADB, MMB-CHMICA, THJ-2201, CUMYL-4CN-BINACA and MDMB-CHMCZCA. International audience; The present study aims to reveal the molecular mechanisms underlying aroma persistence, as it plays a major role in food appreciation and quality. A multidisciplinary approach including ex vivo experiments using a novel model of oral mucosa and saliva as well as in vivo dynamic instrumental and sensory experiments was applied. Ex vivo results showed a reduction in aroma release between 7 and 86% in the presence of the thin layer of salivary proteins covering the oral mucosa (mucosal pellicle). This reduction was explained by hydrophobic interactions involving the mucosal pellicle and by the ability of oral cells and saliva to metabolize specific aroma compounds. The …

In 2008, the first Proficiency Testing Scheme of Chemical Oxygen Demand (1stCOD-PTADG) was conducted to assess the results obtained for different research groups whose field work is mainly anaerobic digestion. This study was performed using four samples, two solid samples as raw materials and two solid samples to prepare high concentration suspended solid solutions. Invitations were sent to a large number of laboratories, mainly to anaerobic digestion research groups. Finally, thirty labs from sixteen countries agreed to participate, but for different reasons four participants could not send any data.
