Technostress and social networking services: Explaining users' concentration, sleep, identity, and social relation problems

It is common for users of social networking sites and services (SNS) to suffer from technostress and the various associated strains that hinder their well‐being. Despite prior SNS stress studies having provided valuable knowledge regarding SNS stressors and their use consequences, they have not examined the various strains related to well‐being that those stressors can create nor the underlying SNS characteristics. Osmotic and cryoprotective effects of a mixture of DMSO and ethylene glycol on rabbit morulae.

Abstract Comparisons were made of the osmotic and cryoprotective effects on rabbit embryos preserved by vitrification with 2 solutions and by conventional freezing. Embryos obtained from rabbits killed 70 to 72 h after mating were used in the study (n = 948). Initially, toxicity of the 3 cryoprotectants was studied in fresh (unfrozen) embryos (n = 135). Subsequently, embryos placed in ethylene glycol (EG, 40% v/v; n = 88) and ethylene glycol with dimethyl sulfoxide (EG+DMSO, 20% v/v each, respectively; n = 344) were loaded into straws and plunged directly into liquid nitrogen. Direct transfer of vitrified rabbit embryos.

In this study we looked at the feasibility of transferring vitrified rabbit embryos directly into recipient does. Compacted morulae were vitrified in a solution of 20% ethylene glycol and 20% dimethyl sulfoxide. After thawing, and without step-wise diluted solution, the vitrified embryos were transferred into the recipient's uterine horns. Survival rate at birth differed from fresh rabbit embryos (40% vs 55%, P0.05). However, the percentage of does that delivered (94%) and the survival rate suggested this method is suitable for both storage and simple transfer of rabbit morulae.

Smad7 controls resistance of colitogenic T cells to regulatory T cell-mediated suppression.

Background & Aims Foxp3-expressing regulatory T cells (Tregs) play a key role in the maintenance of the gut immune homeostasis, and an intact transforming growth factor (TGF)-β signaling is required for their function. In inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), the TGF-β signaling is impaired because of high expression of the inhibitory molecule Smad7. Although no intrinsic defects in Tregs function have been shown in IBD, it is still unknown whether colitogenic T cells are susceptible to Treg-mediated suppression. β-Catenin is a central effector of the Wnt pathway and one of the players in Ca(+)-dependent cell-cell adhesion. While many wnts are present and expressed in vertebrates, only one β-catenin exists in the majority of the organisms. One intriguing exception is zebrafish that carries two genes for β-catenin. The maternal recessive mutation ichabod presents very low levels of β-catenin2 that in turn affects dorsal axis formation, suggesting that β-catenin1 is incapable to compensate for β-catenin2 loss and raising the question of whether these two β-catenins may have differential roles during early axis specification. Regulatory changes in pterin and carotenoid genes underlie balanced color polymorphisms in the wall lizard

Significance Reptiles show an amazing color diversity based on variation in melanins, carotenoids, and pterins. This study reveals genes controlling differences between three color morphs (white, orange, and yellow) in the common wall lizard. Orange pigmentation, due to high levels of orange/red pterins in skin, is caused by genetic changes in the sepiapterin reductase gene. Yellow skin, showing high levels of yellow carotenoids, is controlled by the beta-carotene oxygenase 2 locus.
