Single Heteroatom Fine-Tuning of the Emissive Properties in Organoboron Complexes with 7-(Azaheteroaryl)indole Systems

2016

The application of organoboron compounds as light-absorbing or light-emitting species in areas as relevant as organic electronics or biomedicine has motivated the search for new materials which contribute to the progress of those applications. This article reports the synthesis of four-coordinate boron complexes based on the unexplored 7-(azaheteroaryl)indole ligands. An easy synthetic approach has enabled the fine-tuning of the electronic structure of the organoboron species by modifying a heteroaromatic component in the conjugated system. Furthermore, a comprehensive characterization by X-ray diffraction, absorption and emission spectroscopy, both in solution and in the solid state, cycli…

Growth of Palladium Clusters on a Boron Nitride Nanotube Support

2015

We demonstrated that the migration process of a single palladium atom on the BNNT is not highly energy demanding and can be represented as a hopping mechanism between boron and nitrogen. A model was finally found for the interpretation of the growth energetics, showing that the process is generally favoured increasing the cluster size.

Trace-element partitioning and boron isotope fractionation between white mica and tourmaline

2011

High-grade metamorphic tourmaline and white mica from the Broken Hill area, NSW, Australia, were analyzed with laser-ablation ICP–MS and ion-probe techniques to investigate the partitioning of trace elements and fractionation of boron isotopes between these two coexisting phases. The results indicate that most trace elements show partition coefficients close to one; only elements such as Zn, Sr, the light rare-earth elements La and Ce, and Th, partition preferentially into tourmaline, whereas Rb, Ba, W, Sn, and Nb and Ta are preferentially partitioned into coexisting mica. The ion-probe measurements demonstrate that boron isotopes are strongly fractionated between mica and tourmaline, with …

Muon capture in a general class of weak models.

1985

We study muon capture by /sup 12/C in a general class of weak models. There is always a parameter characteristic of the weak model that can be extracted in a nuclear-model-independent way from the average polarization P/sub av/, the longitudinal polarization P/sub L//sup N/ and the asymmetry ..cap alpha.. in the angular distribution of recoils. For a less general class of models the asymmetry ..cap alpha.. is unnecessary. Using the experimental values of P/sub L//sup N/ and P/sub av/ we get a lower bound for the mass of the right-handed gauge boson of the left-right-symmetric model, M/sub W//sub R/> or =2.5ML, in a nuclear-model-independent way. The dependence of this bound on the experimen…

Development of Novel Selective Peptidomimetics Containing a Boronic Acid Moiety, Targeting the 20S Proteasome as Anticancer Agents

2014

This paper describes the design, synthesis, and biological evaluation of peptidomimetic boronates as inhibitors of the 20S proteasome, a validated target in the treatment of multiple myeloma. The synthesized compounds showed a good inhibitory profile against the ChT-L activity of 20S proteasome. Compounds bearing a β-alanine residue at the P2 position were the most active, that is, 3-ethylphenylamino and 4-methoxyphenylamino (R)-1-{3-[4-(substituted)-2-oxopyridin-1(2H)-yl]propanamido}-3-methylbutylboronic acids (3 c and 3 d, respectively), and these derivatives showed inhibition constants (Ki ) of 17 and 20 nM, respectively. In addition, they co-inhibited post glutamyl peptide hydrolase act…

Optimization of peptidomimetic boronates bearing a P3 bicyclic scaffold as proteasome inhibitors

2014

Abstract A new series of pseudopeptide boronate proteasome inhibitors (2–3) was developed, through optimization of our previously described analogs of bortezomib, bearing a bicyclic 1,6-naphthyridin-5(6H)-one scaffold as P3 fragment (1). The biological evaluation on human 20S proteasome displayed a promising inhibition profile, especially for compounds bearing a P2 ethylene fragment, which exhibited Ki values in the nanomolar range for the ChT-L activity (e.g. 2a, Ki = 0.057 μM) and considerable selectivity for proteasome over bovine pancreatic α-chymotrypsin. Docking experiments into the yeast 20S proteasome revealed that the ligands are accommodated predominantly into the ChT-L site and t…

Extrinsic Effects on the Optical Properties of Surface Color Defects Generated in Hexagonal Boron Nitride Nanosheets

2021

Hexagonal boron nitride (hBN) is a wide-band gap van der Waals material able to host light-emitting centers behaving as single photon sources. Here, we report the generation of color defects in hBN nanosheets dispersed on different kinds of substrates by thermal treatment processes. The optical properties of these defects have been studied using microspectroscopy techniques and far-field simulations of their light emission. Using these techniques, we have found that subsequent ozone treatments of the deposited hBN nanosheets improve the optical emission properties of created defects, as revealed by their zero-phonon linewidth narrowing and reduction of background emission. Microlocalized co…

Computational Investigation of Palladium Supported Boron Nitride Nanotube Catalysts

2015

A QM/MM investigation is reported dealing with the nucleation and growth of small palladium clusters, up to Pd8 , on the outer surface of a suitable model of boron nitride nanotube (BNNT). It is shown that the BNNT could have a template effect on the cluster growth, which is due to the interplay between Pd-N and Pd-Pd interactions as well as to the matching of the B3N3 ring and the Pd(111) face arrangement. The values for the clusters adsorption energies reveal a relatively strong physisorption, which suggests that in particular conditions the BNNTs could be used as supports for the preparation of shape-controlled metal cluster

Boron doping of silicon rich carbides: Electrical properties

2013

Boron doped multilayers based on silicon carbide/silicon rich carbide, aimed at the formation of silicon nanodots for photovoltaic applications, are studied. X-ray diffraction confirms the formation of crystallized Si and 3C-SiC nanodomains. Fourier Transform Infrared spectroscopy indicates the occurrence of remarkable interdiffusion between adjacent layers. However, the investigated material retains memory of the initial dopant distribution. Electrical measurements suggest the presence of an unintentional dopant impurity in the intrinsic SiC matrix. The overall volume concentration of nanodots is determined by optical simulation and is shown not to contribute to lateral conduction. Remarka…

Oltre la ricerca del Graal, il divenire del mito

2014

A mythologist's study of the Graal cultural tradition. Using Francesco Zambon's recent Metamorfosi del Graal as his starting point, the author undertakes an analysis on the importance of the Graal in Western mystical, philosophical and literary traditions throughout time, from the impact of the medieval Graal stories on the matière de Bretagne and beyond (Troyes, Boron), to the appeal of this myth in modern times, including its occurrence on Richard Wagner, Martin Heidegger, Simone Weil, Italo Calvino and Umberto Eco.
