The behaviour of non consumer of organic food: suggestions on marketing strategies to attract new market segments
2013
Do Pied Flycatcher Females Defend an Extra Nest Hole Against Conspecific Females?
1999
AbstractIn birds, females are often aggressive against conspecific females during the breeding. There are many explanations for this intrasexual aggression by females: e.g., nest site or food resource defence, prevention of intraspecific brood parasitism or infanticide, and monopolization of paternal care. A pair might also benefit by defending an alternative nest site in addition to the current nest site. Here, I study by experimentation whether pied flycatcher (Ficedula hypoleuca) females defend an extra nest box as an alternative nesting site. Further, I examine whether females behave differently when their mate is present vs not present. I measured the reactions by resident females to a…

Tensile behaviour of anti-symmetric CFRP composite
2011
Abstract This paper addresses the response of a 17-ply anti-symmetric carbon/epoxy composite subjected to uniaxial tensile loading. Hashin ply damage model is adopted to describe the damage behaviour of the plies, whereas damage initiation and progression of the interfaces are characterised by mixed-mode cohesive damage model. Force-displacement curves obtained numerically and experimentally show good agreement. Results show that all laminae and interfaces experience the damage except laminae with 0o fibre. In addition, damage is concentrated at the tab and central regions of the tensile specimen. Edge delamination is observed in all interfaces.
Relationships among Bicycle Rider Behaviours, Anger, Aggression, and Crashes in Finland
2022
Riding a bicycle is increasingly encouraged as a sustainable transport solution, especially in urban areas. However, safety concerns, both perceived and actual, can significantly lower the willingness to ride among the population. To support cycling planning and policy in the double task of increasing the levels of cycling while mitigating crash risk, there is a need to better understand the behaviours and attitudes of bicycle riders. In this manuscript, we study a cohort of Finnish bicycle riders through four questionnaires, the Cycling Behaviour Questionnaire (CBQ), Cyclist Risk Perception and Regulation Scale (RPRS), Cyclist Anger Scale (CAS), and Cyclist Aggression Expression Inventory …
Role of two co-occurring Mediterranean sea urchins in the formation of barren from Cystoseira canopy
2015
Abstract In the Mediterranean Sea the co-occurring sea urchins Paracentrotus lividus and Arbacia lixula are usually considered to share the same ecological role in the formation of barren from Cystoseira canopy. However, their foraging ability may vary due to feeding behavior and species-specific morphological traits. The relative effects of P. lividus and A. lixula on Cystoseira canopy was tested experimentally both in the laboratory, at a density of about 20 ind./m 2 , and in the field by gut content analysis. Field and laboratory results show that A. lixula is unable to affect Cystoseira spp. Furthermore, these results confirmed the great ability of P. lividus to consume Cystoseira canop…
Challenging behaviour in school – special education teachers’ perceptions
2016
This article explores the challenges that special education teachers encounter during their daily work in Finnish schools. The main focus is in those challenges which cause worry among teachers, especially aggressive behavior in class rooms and school area. This article scrutinizes the reasons and consequences of a problem from the perspective of special education teachers. The research shows, how problems are mainly caused by delays in assessments, treatments and rehabilitation for pupils with mental or behavioral disorders. The analysis shows how on teachers’ opinion, challenging situations, which induce great worry occur when pupil has a need for psychiatric treatment but had not receive…
Control of Behaviour and Growth by Imitating the Contact Environment
1983
The behaviour of cells in vitro is the result of all the influences exerted by the actual microenvironment which, in a simplified form, is composed of two main compartments (Fig. 1): (i) the diffusive environment, (ii) the contact environment. These two compartments regulate the cell behaviour by distinct mechanisms induced by molecules which, beside being compartment-specific, differ in their mobility.
Nanotechnology Application Challenges: Nanomanagement, Nanorisks and Consumer Behaviour
2017
New emerging technologies are entering the society, which makes civil society the location for moral authority. Society is about the quality of human relationships; it is where people have to accept responsibility for the consequences of their actions; it is where the nano meets the micro and the micro meets the macro issues. Society belongs to all of us and everyone has his role to play. A new way of system thinking – nanothinking demonstrates technology trends from perfectness to non-regularity. The removal of current contradictions between regular and non-regular systems and the corresponding nanophenomena is the way to novel processes in the development of nanosciences and nanotechnolog…
